That was the ONLY good part. Ah, most of it was pretty good, if you like Shakespeare though. I was never a huge fan. Ceaser and McBeth are pretty good. Reminds me, I need to go find copies of those.

OOOH! I thought you meant that Leo Caprio, Claire Danes one! Silly me. Yes, Olivia Hussey (?) .. freakin beautiful. But that landed the director into some scandal since she was underage.

Also, isn't it true that Shakespeare may have been bi?

As for the smut peddling thing, it really isn't smutty by today's standards, but back then, it may have been the reason why theater was considered at the level of prostitution and gambling.

Possible. But highly unlikely. We had a debate on this in World Masterpeices and most of the evidence for it is shakier than a 75 year old skier on speed.

It was racy for back then and Shakepeare was racier than most of his comteperaries.

Shakespeare was considered trashy lowbrow entertainment for his era. The leading playwright and his fans looked down on Shakespeare and his fans, but have vanished into the mists of time (well, not literally; his name is still known, but nobody gives a shit about him).

Of course, if history repeats itself, this means that "Married with Children" will be studied in universities 300 years from now, while Shakespeare lies forgotten on the dust heap of history.

Shakespeare wrote very few stage directions. It's almost impossible to know exactly how he wanted to portray things like that on stage. However, he (like many authors of his time) wrote pornography by the definition of the word used at the time.

I tried that argument before with an English major. Didn't get me any nookie. :(

Not to bring up a dead thread without a good intention.
I had a comment written on my paper of what I think of Shakespeare from my teacher saying "maybe you just need to understand it more" or something of the like and i'm lacking a response to it....

Any good suggestions?
Besides not being able to understand a freakin word written without looking for a translating book..... would be appreciated :D

Damnit, the only time I've seen the 1960's version was in school, so I didn't see, nor did I know that it had some full frontal nudity. Any chance I'll see that in college?

Maybe it would help if you posted your paper on another thread, so that I could actually see what your instructor meant by the comment.

shakespeare is a travesty to the written language :P having to study him in school probably makes someone more against him than normal having to analyse his crap, but even on a normal basis its all pretty much crap. srry to any shakespeare fans

Actually wouldn't people start to think that the stories were true? I think it's happened before, a lot to do with the Trojan War. Though it would be nice to study Married With Children, but imagine how over-analysed it would become.

Them: "The toilet flush sounds show the transient nature of mankind, and it existence."
Me: "It was there to sound funny."

When we were watching that act in class two weeks ago every guy in the class went drooling and were about to whip it out. Damn, she had a great rack. But aside Shakespeare had access to drugs such as marijuania and other drugs in his day and may very likely have used them.
