SERVER ISSUES: PLEASE HELP TEST

I've installed a new version of the database software (MySQL) on the test board. This new version fixes many serious performance issues, but it must be tested for reliability. Please abuse the test board mercilessly in order to make sure it's OK.

PS. For the propellerheads, the board currently runs on MySQL 3.23.55, and the one running on the test board is MySQL 4.0.12 (with PHP 4.3.1). Version 4.0.12 recently "went gold".

Loads fine, reads fine, but trying to post replies takes forever and eventually times out.

I've had no problems with it thus far. My computer here sucks shit though, so I can't really post high volume spam.

Considering I have quite a hard problem actually spamming... it does seem to work well.

I just posted two fairly large pics, and it poped up quickly after I hit the submit button, so it seems to work fine for me so far.

Generally slow access times, but not too outrageous.

Thanks. I fixed that one; it was a config goof (I set the wrong TMP directory).

PS. I haven't been able to duplicate the long posting delays; I'll have to watch for it.

Keep in mind it's currently running through a 128kbps connection, which is only 2-3 times as fast as a typical dial-up modem.

I did my duty. No problems posting a new topic, and board speed seemed to be satisfactory. It didn't take me twenty minutes to make a friggin' post, which is a step in the right direction.

In theory, this version has more overhead so might be a bit more sluggish on certain operations, particularly searches. But when it gets bombarded with heavy traffic, it won't get as mind-bogglingly slow as the older version does. In other words, it's supposed to scale better.

Break out the SM-1E38 Super Standard ABM missiles and load em on the Delete class cruisers quickly!

Test board still seems okay.

Should we be concerned about the post-count difference? Here, I'm at 526, and at the test board I'm at 369. I'm getting poked, and I don't like it.

The test board is based off a copy of this board taken many weeks ago. Any changes or posts you made since then would not have carried over.

Have you considered Oracle 9i as an option? MySql is really limited with limited resources. Oracle powers some of the most powerfull databases in the world.

With MySql, you get open code and no promises, no real support, and no real upgrades.

No, I'm not being snotty.. I'm an Oracle DBA and I believe that it's one of the BEST databases there is....

Just my thought.
