A fucking airplane almost hit my fucking house! Just now!
I live about ten miles from Williams Field airport here in AZ, and these fucking student pilots choose MY house to do dry runs on! Idiot was no more than 30 feet off the goddamned ground when he got the fuckin' engine re-started. *changes soiled undergarments*

Are you talking about simulated engine failures? Cause thats about what you do.

He's probably landed by now. It happens all the damned time, you hear a plane overhead, and then they cut power......wait what seems like an eternity, and then the engine comes back on, screaming.
We also get these guys practising their aerobatics routines, and the dogfighter play for a day rentals. I swear, one of these idiots is gonna be the death of me.....
At least I get a free airshow.

Yup. This was the worst, though. He really was low enough that I could see his undercarriage out the window. I ran outside and he was across the street, *maybe* 50 feet off the ground.....

Yeah, I'm also in the flight path for Sky Harbor in Phoenix, but that's 60 or so miles away. The biggies are about 10,000 feet up by the time the get out this way. *Except* for the KC-135 ELINT variant that comes in about a thousand feet off the ground.

You might want to look into your local laws. Generally aircraft flying above a certain speed need to stay at well above the ground unless they're landing. The exact numbers vary from country to country. Though if your talking about prop planes there likely slow enough not to be restricted.

I suggest you complain to your local airport in any case.

You could get one of those old big CB antenas, then your house would become a flying hazard area, and they would had to avoid it. No more flight shows, though, but it sure would save on the laundry bill.

Get a rifle and sit on the roof, aiming at them as they come. That should keep them away.

If you are living in a sparcely populated area, the planes must stay at least 500 feet from any person, structure, or thing unless they are landing or taking off. What these guys are doing over your house is probably simulated engine failures. This is a common practice, as if you lose your engine, you need to know how to secure the aircraft and put it down safely. You really shouldn't be concerned about this. The engine is not actually shut off, it is just idled. To ensure the engine doesn't shut off while idling, it is cleared (temporarily revved up) every 1000 ft. If it does fail near the ground, then the aircraft is already headed toward a clearing and doesn't pose a threat to your house.

I used to live directly under the flightline for landing at Orlando International Airport. If it was cloudy (and just as a note, I don't know WHY we're called the Sunshine State, it rains probably 180 days out of the year), they would come in low enough that it sounded like they were landing in the backyard. I was only about 20 minutes drive from the airport district, so it wasn't that far. Scared the heck out of me one night when I'd just fallen asleep and some big plane (prolly a 747) came overhead, rattling our windows. Not quite as noisy as a shuttle coming through, but bad enough.

I live about 10 minutes away from Pearson International Airport in Toronto, and up until they built the 3rd terminal there some years back I was right under the flightlines. Every x-max and March break we'd have planes going over our house every 5 minutes, and anything bigger than a 737 would rattle the windows, and a 747 would shake the whole damn house. It was bad enough that I slept with earplugs on some days.

The other fun part is that they use the airport for all the planes at the Airshow every September. We get military jets flying over our house on the airshow days, and lemme tell you, having a C5 flying low enough that I could hit it with a slingshot ain't my idea of fun. That and the Snowbirds flying in formation doing high-speed turns over my neighbourhood as they loop back towards the airshow. At least we haven't been hit with any sonic booms yet...

When I was in Seattle, I flew out of Boeing/King County Field, which lies 3 miles directly north of Seattle Tacoma International, and directly under the instrument approach course. When the winds were coming from the south, there would be a constant stream of jets on approach into SEATAC, flying over Boeing Field at about 1,200ft. When you took off from Boeing Field, you had to stay usually below 800ft, so that the jumbos coming in a mere 300ft above you wouldn't suck you into their engines.

Better to get some surpluses weather balloons and cabling, and use them to set up a barrage to snare any low flying aircraft.

Where I worked this summer I could look out my window and have a clear view of the end of one of the runways at Pearson. When planes fly over for landing during a dry week we get gravel shaken off the roof.

Yeah, this is a pretty sparcely populated area, and normally planes keep a safe distance, sounding much closer than they actually are, and *rarely* directly over the house. But today, this guy fired up, for all intents and purposes, in my front yard. Something had gone VERY wrong.
Most of the time, the aerobatics and dogfight rentals are really at least a half mile away or more.
