Dude! My phone bill just got reduced by at least half! And I get to play with this incredibly cool little Cisco router and the call quality is superb! Unlimited LD to US and Canada for $40US!

As this is not an ad, PM me if you want to know my provider info :P

But does it provide local calls as well?

Yep! Everything you get withyour plain old service, except the price (Very cool, you get a number which people can call, VM, call waiting, unlimited LD to US and Canada, really cheap LD elsewhere) Only three caveats: You can't call 911 or any short emergency number, you have to dial 11 digits even for local calls, and if you lose either power or your net connection you are SOL (But then again... whenever I lose my net connection I want to kill myself) :P

They made a commercial about this saying it can reduce a company's spending on utilities by "millions".

I want one :D

Some of the VoIP routers should support being plugged into an UPS. That way if you lose power you might still be able to make calls. I would be interested in VoIP when it becomes as reliable as POTS.
