H.R. Giger died today In Zurich, after sustaining serious injuries after a fall down a flight of stairs.

I will mourn him.

Fuck, this sucks.

This guy really was fucking brilliant. The Xenomorph design remains to this day probably one of the most inspired pieces of artwork in Hollywood - the perfect combination of goth, sexuality and violence. It really elevated Alien beyond the typical "creature feature", and honestly I don't think I've seen a more compelling design for an extraterrestrial life form to this day.

Game over man... game over, indeed.

A wickedly imaginative man who created some truly iconic and unsettling imagery. RIP.

Also a very disturbed man. He suffered from night terrors (a major influence in his art; he kept a sketchpad by his bed to put down the things he saw) and supposedly shot heroin in an attempt to reduce their intensity.

Hopefully wherever he is, he's enjoying a good night's sleep.

I did not know that. Makes sense though unfortunately, it's often the case for gifted people to carry some baggage

RIP. Spookily enough, that's the third celebrity in a row that died just days after I had looked them up on Wikipedia on a whim (the first two were Roger Ebert and Michael Clarke Duncan). Gotta' look up the Koch brothers next.
