Where do you go for news?

Where do you go first to get news and updates?
Channel-wise, I usually watch Russia Today or BBC news, occasionally CNN. My favourite websites are bbc.co.uk and SDN itself. I try and go to more than one source, to get a mixture of opinions and views on topics.

Generally I read the paper, keep an eye on N&P and SLAM, and browse various news sites. Will also listen to NPR sometimes in the car.

I've avoided television news for some years now because frankly it just isn't convenient or particularly in depth.

That depends. What type of news am I interested in?

Digg, Alternet, Forbes, Reddit, NYMag, ArsTechnica, Engadget, NBCNewYork, NBCNews, CNN, random stuff that pops into my Facebook feed.

I read the Economist, but that's a weekly magazine and is really more for understanding events rather than keeping up with them.

In terms of breaking news, to be honest I just wait until I hear about something through word-of-mouth or social media (or N&P); if the event is big, important, or interesting enough for me to want to know more about, I'll go to BBC, CNN (not because I like CNN, just because it is convenient and easy to find), and occasionally Al Jazeera. Sometimes in the mornings when I eat breakfast I turn on FOX News just to laugh at whatever they are blustering about.

For me, it's just reached the point I don't really trust any live news. So unless it is something significant (like the Boston Marathon bombings) I don't even bother trying to follow it in real time.

I have CNN and USA Today breaking news alerts on my phone. Facebook has a "trending" feed which sometimes has relevant news. Also, right here at SDN we have a fair number of good news articles posted.

Facebook, although that's more a waste of time than actual news.

Google News on occasion.

SDN; while we don't keep up with everything, the stuff we do pick up on usually draws some decent commentary.

The occasional dead tree for the heck of it or if someone leaves one laying around.

Come to think of it, I don't watch TV news anywhere near as much as I used to. I mainly watch RT for The Big Picture with Thom Hartmann, which lately I've been watching almost daily.

Forgot to add the one magazine I do buy almost religiously: Private Eye!

I find myself lately bored with news outside of my borough so it's been local news sites like the Queens Courier and Times Ledger. Any other news piece I do decide to read, it's usually from my FB feed or Salon and Al Jazeera.

Local Papers, NBC, scan the headlines on AOL and link to anything interesting. Slashdot. Our own N&P forum.

Hmmm. I probably don't keep up with the news as well as I ought.

Web - BBC News, The Guardian & here - I also subscribe to several energy industry news services
Paper - Private Eye & Economist although I used to read the independent in my youth! Plus two local papers that get put through the door for free
