DVD purcheses

So, I'm walking up to pearl street to get dinner and I stop by Borders to get warmed up when what do I see? Why, it's "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" on DVD. <Insert sound of cash register being rung.> Of course, they also keep their manga selections right behind the cashier so <insert more sounds of cash register being rung> Even better, as I'm on my way to the cashier, I see a poster saying that Disney is releasing a Two DVD set containing Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky will be released on April 15. <Insert sound of cash register being rung overlayed with sounds of me sobbing> It's a good thing I don't believe in God, because if I did I would have to assume that he's a sadistic bastard right about now.

Are you sure about Spirited Away? It's just being re-released in theatres, I think they'll want to milk it a bit more before putting it out on DVD.
Anime is such an expensive habit, it angers me.

Oh and yeah, Anime is an expensive hobby. I actually bought a shirt that says "Anime: Drugs would be cheaper."

Disney's never really been into promoting the Miyazaki stuff, and they delayed practically all of the Studio Ghibli DVD releases after Mononoke bombed a while back. At the least, the American version of Spirited Away has the tinting error from the Japanese version corrected (everything was tinted strongly red, apparently a mastering error -- Buena Vista Japan naturally refused to do a recall, denying that there was even a problem).

Anime can be frustratingly expensive at times. For example, I will pay 30 dollars per DVD for the Dowboy Bebop series, because there are six DVDs with 4/5 episodes on each, and I figure it's worth it.
But NO WAY IN HELL will I pay thirty goddamn dollars for 08th MS Team, which manages to cram *gasp* TWO EPISODES ON A DVD! Price gouging at its finest, Je-sus!
Don't even get me started on Outlaw Star or Gundam 0080.

Why don't you just get the box set for Bebop?
I've actually found the entire series somewhere for only about 40 dollars, but I suspect it may be some sort of bootleg.

I've not seen the box set around anywhere, and I don't want to sit around waiting while other CB fans buy up the DVDs (I have three of the six).

From what I understand, they're pushing up the release because of Spirited Away winning the Oscar. I'm guessing that they're hoping people will buy it based on that.

Still, best to give it a rerun in theatres first to try and milk the Oscar win, rather than re-releasing in and then releasing the DVD two fucking weeks later.

I got the Cowboy Bebop boxset. $195 was a good deal, since it came with the whole series and the first OST, plus the swanky box.

They're also releasing two other Miyazaki films along with Spirited Away. Releasing it as soon as they are, they're probably hoping that people will see it in stores along with the other two and buy those as well. They probably figure people will be more inclined to buy Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky if Spirited Away's win is fresh in their mind.

Go check out
http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com
They have Vol 1-4 of 8th Team for $18.95 apice, no boxed set yet, though they do have the Gundam Wing set for $149.00(vrs 199.99msrp)
Also they have the Coyboy Bebop discs for $22.31(not bad since you get 4 eps per disc)
Its where I buy my anime , fuck Borders, Suncoast or even Best Buy....
The sites shipping is modest and they are reliable , if sluggish at times , but everythig has always arrived safe and sound. I really reccoment them to all you cash strapped anime fans. DO NOT PAY RETAIL, Suncoast and Borders mark ups are outrageous.

Blue Sub #6 was worse -- at release, it was $30 for one 30 minute episode per DVD, with minimal extras. Well, in that case, the release pattern was part of the licensing agreement and the series itself was sub-par, but it's still pretty bad. Most sets I've seen have four episodes per DVD, but there are some exceptions (like
Key: The Metal Idol, which fit seven).

Amazon has the whole thing for a hundred bucks.
