We my Doc told me today that I'm diabetic as if I don't have enough crap wrong with me. Granted been expecting this as both parents are diabetic along with my brother, sister several cousins and multiple aunts and uncles. So it was only a matter of time.

My condolences.
On the other hand, it is a condition that can be controlled, albeit with significant effort. Best wishes for good health down the road.

I feel your pain. I was diagnosed a few years ago and due to Ireland's shitty health care system I was put on the wrong insulin. Thankfully I'm back in the UK now and the NHS are much more on the ball.
It's not the end of the world. Just take your meds as directed and don't take the piss and you'll be peachy. Good luck.

I have a family friend with Type II diabetes, and he says that the only time it is ever really inconvenient/uncomfortable is when he is traveling. When he is at home, it barely impacts his diet or lifestyle, and he's never had a severe physical problem with it. But he says he has to be really diligent and careful when traveling, especially long plane flights to different time zones. It becomes a lot harder to track whether you are staying hydrated and nourished. That said, some people have it worse than others.

Its often referred to as 'adult onset diabetes' the one characterised by your tissues becoming insensitive to Insulin so that although your body still generates the hormone it has a reduced effect, it is often characterised buy the sufferer being overweight but not always. It can often be dealt with by diet and generally does not need injection of insulin. The other version is type one or 'juvenile onset' where you body carry's out a immune reaction to the cells which produce the insulin so that your body stops producing, or at least produces far less, insulin, it often requires insulin injections to control.

The term type 2 diabetes can be misleading. Type 2 covers a multitude of causes, In some cases yes it can be caused by an unhealthy diet. In my case it was caused by my pancreas going on a union mandated go slow, heavy drinking and experimentation with drugs in my 20's were another factor.
