New Indiana Jones Movie due out in 2019

Post by Borgholio »

Ford and Spielberg are attached.

Spielberg and Ford Reunite as Indiana Jones Returns to Theaters July 19, 2019

Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.

Honestly, I think Ford may be making a mistake given how bad shooting Episode VII was for his health. He'll be turning 75 in 2018, and there's got to be a limit.

What, you don't want to see Wheelchair Indy action figures? :P I can see them doing it, but yeah, it's admittedly a stretch. Look on the bright side-- maybe we won't have Shia Labeouf in this one?

I wonder how much of the Young indy series is considered "canon" and will Indy possibly loose an eye at during this movie (old in the series wore an eyepatch over 1 eye). That said one thing I liked about Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was that they didn't pretend that indy was this in his 30s but he was more or less as old as Ford was.

:banghead: is roughly the sum total of all I'm prepared to say on this matter. After Kingdom wiped its arse with the franchise I have practically zero interest in this. Nothing against Ford, I reckon he could still pull it off even as a 75 year old, but I just really wish they'd quit while they were behind.

I have no problem with this, as long as it's done from the perspective of a old Indy regaling his grandchild with a story of his youth. We see flashbacks of a young Indy, played by some appropriately aged and agile younger actor. Otherwise, no offense to Ford, but he's just past the kind of shenanigans I want to see Indy taking part in.

Eh, they pitched him as in his fifties more so than his sixties, or that's my impression.

Guys, we got the face swap app nowadays. Just get the stunt double to do the scenes and Ford just need to act with his face.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

That's a pretty good idea, and probably the best way to handle this. If one frames the films as being "stories told by old man" then consistency between them isn't such a thing, which allows more storytelling freedom.

Why? Worst case scenario is that they make a bad film. It's not like the older ones cease to exist.

As far as old Ford is concerned... he was a wonderful Han in Episode VII, I thought. And no one complained when Ian Makellan was climbing the mountains of New Zealand and fighting orcs with a sword as an old man.

And with all the weird supernatural shit he's been exposed to, Indy probably isn't a "normal" human either. Being exposed to the Ark of the Covenant and drinking from the Holy Grail spring to mind, plus whatever the fuck happened to him in Temple of Doom.

To be honest I don't really recall them doing much physically demanding stuff. Not saying they didn't, but I've only seen the film once and the action was hectic to say the least. I don't recall seeing them do anything that challenged my SoD.

Deep down we all know that ages weakens and slows us- at least all humans. It's true that Indy could well be special in some way, but I'd want to see that in the portrayal as a whole. I don't want to see him like Yoda where he needs a cane to walk about but then can jump around in a way that'd make a capuchin monkey dizzy. For what it's worth I've never see McKellen look slow, look aged the way Ford does now, which makes the transitions to combat Gandalf less jarring.

If KotCS didn't exist, they could have digitally put Ford's head onto a younger body, like Chris Evans in Captain America and claimed his youthful body was a result of the Grail. Probably a terrible idea.

I was referring to the old Mad Max women, not Indy. The fridge was silly.

I actually liked the fridge scene. I know, it's silly and all, but it was the only part of that whole movie that was even memorable. The rest was so bland, whereas the whole atomic testing site scene in Nevada was really original and interesting - a new 50s-style take on Indiana Jones. But then the rest of the movie was just a series of meaningless action sequences in random jungles, which was already done much better in the beginning of Raiders.

This new movie can be good, if they just do something very different. But really, at this point, the "old Indiana Jones" SNL jokes just write themselves.

Well, any Indy sequel with Ford is probably going to be set in the early 1960s, I suppose.

So they've done Europe, Middle East, Latin America and the Indian subcontinent. Anyone want to bet it'll be in Eastern/southeastern Asia?

Though it'd be cool to see something related to King Solomon's Mines/Great Zimbabwe, with apartheid villains.
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.
