I don't think sterilizing drug addicts is going to solve anything at all...where are they going with this?

Except for cases where the child is born hooked, addicts are MADE not BORN.

Physical addiction makes an insatiable force underwhich all other wants are crushed. Here is an analogy:
You find a man in the desert who has wandered for days with no water. You offer him water on the condition that he loses his ability to procreate. Drugs to an addict are water in the desert, you offer and they will accept, no matter the conditions.

Interesting. I say the government gives them drugs and uses them for cheap quasi-slave labor. Normal citizens seeing the horrors of what drug addicts will go through and perhaps this can help set them straight. I've no respect for drug addicts as human beings, if they made no honest attempt to overcome their addiction. Ones that overcome their demons are indeed strong individuals. All the others are animals.

From what I understand, the thinking is that this will prevent babies born addicted, as well as children born to addicted mothers who prostituted themselves in order to earn money for their next fix, and who can't take care of these children.

Hey, the less children brought into this world whose lives will be absolutely ruined because of their parents' behavior, the better. This may not be the best way to do it, but it's better than nothing.

Addictive tendencies tend to be heritable. So, it could be seen as eugenics. And I'm all for it. For that matter, I would be for offering other people large sums of money to have themselves rendered permanently sterile. Like, for example, young inner-city folks on welfare, who, for some reason, like cranking out children. We offer somebody like that a fair sum of money to have themselves permanently sterilized and we can relieve a lot of societal problems and costs in the long run.

Genoicde is another possible "reason" to practice forced sterlization. If Hilter steralized the Jews of Europe instead of sending them to the concentration camps the "Jewish Race" would be just as extinct; the same result but a different method (assuming he managed to "get" them all in both cases).
