I'm with Stormy, last one I bought was LOTR:TTT. I rarely buy regular pop music CDs anymore simply because of the awful phenomenon of one or two songs being good and the rest of the CD being a steaming POS, so I simply download what I want to hear. No way I'm paying $15 or more for a CD that I'll only listen to one or two songs. Now if something comes out from an artists I like then I'll buy the CD, otherwise, I've been burned one time too many by these shitty bands with one song on a generally awful CD. Until the music industry cleans up its act and starts putting out quality product I will continue to choose to save my money.
I may be a little off here but has the quality of music gone down in teh last few years, I mena there has not been a real breakout group or series of songs that I can think of that really moved me in a long time.

Amen. Soundtracks have been the basis of my library for years.

Bought Claude Bolling's Original Ragtime Piano about a year and a half ago. In all fairness, I was replacing a lost CD.

the last time i bought CD's i bought three.
Tenacious D
(....wake up...wake up...where's my schnitzel! you ate my fucking schnitzel!)
Freddie Hubbard - Red Clay (remasterd)
Miles Davis Birth of the Cool
i really only buy Jazz discs anymore, only because MP3's really don't have the range and a lot of the high trumpet stuff sounds like shit. and Tenacious D.....ell Jack Black is a funny MoFo, and he deserves my hard earned money.

I agreee with that. There are damn few bands I'd call good. And most of those have been doing it for quite a while. There certainly haven't been any bands recently that are likely to stand the test of time, one or two maybes at most.
I think part of it's the pop-effect. You have to have an ablum that'll sell a few million at least, thanks to the way the record companies operate. That means that you'll get damn few artists that takes chances and produce substantial music. Instead you get formulaic music and trend whore albums.

Umm, the last CD I bought was either John Mayer "Inside Wants Out" or Train "Drops of Jupiter..." Both are really good, in case you're wondering.

Rammstein: Hunger (the german word for hunger), Australian Tour Edition, with live CD.
I had a craving for heavy guitars blasting in my car last week, and my old Rammstein CD wasn't gonna cut it.

I got a copy of Mutter yesterday. Very useful in pissing off the neighbours. Their exact words where "OK OK you like heavy metal but can you leave the nazi's outta it." I wasn't impressed.

If you don't go for pop stuff there are still some good new artists, I've recently got into another blues phase (the last musical phase I had was ska and before that jazz) and Amor are a decent new band, Mark Selby is decent too. Thier stuff is hardly ground breaking but it's damn good to listen to. Basically I buy stuff from artists that I've never heard of by listening to random CDs in Borders.
Or just meander around the streets and buy CDs off of random street bands...
The last CD I got was Amor which I received delivery of this very day...

the last album i got was infact a tape, not a cd.
in bulgaria they´ve acutally still got these oldfashion things called tapes. anyway, the cover says
yukegá - p e ß o /\ |-o u, u R(<- mirror the R) (i tried to simmulate the cyrillic letters with ... stuff)
i don´t know whether the yukegá is cyrillic or the REAL
alphabet, so i have no clue how to pronounce it
<edit>it´s ska in bulgarian language by the way</edit>

I think the last one I got was Tool - Lateralus.
The next one will either be Disturbed - Believe or Evanescence - Fallen.

Rammstein's "Mutter" disc, 'Feuer frei' kicks my ass everytime I hear it
, and every track is just as awesome.
There are very few new bands that are worth my money, so I've gone the other way and started looking at older music, stuff from the 50's through the late 80's. Lots of Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd(60's era Floyd) the 'Edgar Winter Group' is awesome, as is a bunch of the early rock and roll. Also go look through the "Blues' section of your local record store try a few and I think you'll be plseantly surprised. Theres a ton of great music out there , just none of its on the radio....
