There is no reason why these words are so bad to deserve any sort of punishment, at least for adults.

It's an interesting psychological experiment. Reinforcement and Punishment are forms of Operant Conditioning a form of learning were a the occurances of a behavoir are increased or deacreased by a response that follows after the behavoir. Reinforcement is trying to increase a behavor, positive reinforcement for example is giving a dog food when he does a trick, negative reinforcement is taking away an unpleasant situation to increase behavior, like playing high pitched music to a rat that stops when they hit a switch. Punishment is trying to decrease a behavior, positive punishment is doing something to decrease the behavior, like spanking or the thwapping of the rubberband, negative punishment is taking something away to decrease a punishment, like taking away TV from a your teenager when they come in after curfew.

Exactly. Do stuff like that for enough time and you'll eventually like the pain and actually want it.
