Most people agree that British humor is funnier than most anything on American TV, right? I'm talking Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder.
The fun they have with the language and outrageous skits are always hilarious. I especially enjoy the understated jokes that aren't the "POW!!" zingers that fester on American comedies.

Many famous American comedies were British comedies reworked, such as "Sanford and Son" and "Three's Company." Are there any British posters out there that remember these old shows: "Steptoe and Son" and "Man About The House"? Were they funny?

I still watch Steptoe & Son on Uk Gold and BBC 2 all the time. Also i recently bought the entire Fawlty Towers Collection On DVD. Well there where so little of them they where easy to get.

The thing that makes British Comedy better is because of the lack of it. If america finds a successful series they market it and sell the shit out of it etc, whereas British Comdey programs aren't. It all comes down to the saying that you can have too much of a good thing.

In my experience, they sucked ass. They had funny bits but you felt as if a bit of you died during watching it, funny in the same way "Last of the summer wine" is...more or less.

Funniest thing about last of the summer wine were the action figure line i was gonna bring out...but i thought that kids would never get irony.

Best humour is MPFC and TMRNJ.

Don't know what MPFC is but i assume TMRNJ means This morning with Richard not Judy, which IMO sucked apart from the Jesus "consider the lily" sketch.

On the "Entire Fawlty Towers Collection DVD" wasn't there only something like 6 episodes?

I've never seen the American equivilant to be honest. But Steptoe & Son was piss yourself funny. You ever see ole Matrini ad where Joan Collins ends up with a drink in her lap, if you did thats the Son.

Isn't it strectching it a bit then to say you have the entire collection on DVD. It makes it sound like there's been 4 series or something, like Blackadder, [smug git mode] which coincidently i do have the entire collection of on DVD. [end smug git]

Monty Python's Flying Circus, of course. THE BEST comedy sketch show ever, beating out even The Kids in the Hall.

Other favorite series of mine include Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, and, of course, Black Books.

I saw Bridget Jones' Diary tonight and one of the guys was from that. Loved that show when it was on.

But I have to admit, a lot of ouyr stuff today is utter shite. That 30 Things To Do Before You Die or something is about as funny as a dose of arsenic.

TLoG went downhill in series 3, but The Office, now that is an original and best.

Only two series and no intention on anything more than another Xmas special or something.

I suspect the reason most Americans laugh is because of their funny accent...

I don`t know for other board members but i like british comedy cause in a half hour show you see 27 minutes of it while american shows have 22 minutes sometime less,the rest is filled with commercials.

I love dry, understated humor, but British comedy was always at its best when it could combine that with raw mayhem and slapstick...thus, Fawlty Towers.
