Transgender to run for public office in Japan...

Just got it from an e-mail...
In a landmark decision, a transgender woman will be allowed to run for office as a female, even though under Japanese law she is still
considered a male.
She will be listed on the ballot for Tokyo's municipal government under her chosen name of Aya Kamikawa.
When Kamikawa, 35, presented her candidacy documents last month to
an election administration committee, she left blank the box for sex.
Local officials referred the question to the federal government, which ruled she could run as a female, but all official reports and records of the poll will refer to her as a man.
Kamikawa is on a hospital waiting list to undergo sex reassignment
surgery later this year. But even after the surgery is complete,
she will continue to be officially recognized as male on her family register, the official document the government uses for all identification.
Japan is one of the few major industrialized nations that does not
have transgender rights. The term "transgender" is not used.
Rather, transgender people are referred to as "suffering gender identity
disorder."
Frankly I don't care if she's a transgender as long as she does her job...but what will other's people reaction be?

See, thats one thing i never understood. Why the hell do people feel the need to go chopping their dick off and growing a set of squeeze toys? Now don't get me wrong, i don't care who you choose to sleep with, or what gender you choose to dress up as, but fuck, i have to draw the line a self mutilation. Why is it if you chop off your fingers, they call it a mental disorder and put you in a psych ward, but if you chop of your dick, oh, your just exploring your sexuality! Hell, when i was a kid i wanted to grow up and be a fire truck, but at one point i realized i just didn't have the equipment. Did i have a flashing red light, ladder and hose surgically attached to my body? nope, i grew up and moved on.

That's the dumbest rant I've heard in a while. Why should they be stopped from doing it? If they are the opposite sex mentally why is it they should force themselves to live a false life? There's no harm to them by doing this and no harm to anyone else. So why shouldn't they be allowed to have a sex change? Simply because the idea makes you uncomfortable isn't a reason.
It's really no different than forcing a gay man to be straight. It's likewise forcing them to behave and act as something they just aren't. So why do it when there's no harm?

Her/his name is Adcock, but, s/he is referred to quite often as Adacock.

or something to be a disorder, it must be hrmful. If it is simply odd, it is abnormal. The moment you are harming yourself, or smeone else, as a result of that abnormality it becomes a disorder.
Trans people go through a year of psych screening, and they have to live as a person of their new gnder for 6-18 months depending on the area.

I think all the gay guys on this board will quite happily confirm that they're MEN, not 'women trapped in men's bodies', just as the one lesbian will qquite ahppily admit she's a woman.
Transgender people, however, strongly believe that they should be the other gender, and they have a right to pursue that.

since when is chopping of body parts not harmful? think about it for a second. if someone lopped off a foot because mentally he or she decided it was not part of their 'identity' anymore, would you not classify that as harmfull? if someone wanted to gouge out their eyeballs so they could 'identify' with blind culture, would you not classify that as harmfull? Look, i'm not advocating legislation to ban this sort of thing, i'm saying that there are some obvious mental illness when someone wants to CHOP OF THEIR FUCKING BODY PARTS. This has nothing to do with homosexuality, which is as far as i am concerned is perfectly normal. THIS IS CHOPPING OFF BODY PARTS. You think people go through a painful and potentially debilitating surgical procedure for a lark? This is very different than what you're thinking, and maybe you should consider finding out something about the subject, before you subject people to your ignorant opinion.

Your opinion clearly is ignorant, though, because you obviously know nothing about the subject and equally obviously have no intention of learning anything about the subject.
Ignorance is not a flaw - it is the default state of a person on a subject with which they have no familiarity. Willful ignorance, on the other hand, is a flaw. By stating that you have no intention of educating yourself on the subject, you fall into the latter category.

My reaction is pretty much the same as G1's. All that matters is how well she can do her job.
And when she does have the sex reasignment surgery, I wouldn't think of her as being anything other than a woman.
