A Guinea Pig bit me once.
Having said that, I prefer Rats. My pet rat never showed anything resembling aggressive tendencies, never pissed or shit outside her cage, and would come to me when I called her. She would curl up in my lap when I read and fall asleep. And she loved my pet mouse like it was her own child! They were so cool together.
I miss 'em.

Guinea Pigs are far superior unless you have major space restrictions for a cage.

We had guinea pigs before and they are prolific. Within a few months, our two guinea pigs already had a big family...

You either need all females, or individual cages. Though personaly I've only ever had a single pig.

Guinea pigs get along well with cumin, salt and pepper.

We had hamsters for a while. I think guinea pigs are big and ugly, but hamsters were always good for a laugh.

I agree. They're more filling.

Gotta say, the Syrian hamster is perhaps one of the most lethally cute things that exist on the planet.
Especially when:
a) they're in those ball things
b) They try to put an entire carrot in their cheek pouches.

I love it when they're in those ball things, and then you give the ball a good kick across the room. Only with hamsters, that is.

I prefer Guinea pigs. If only because they are easier to pick up.

We had a happy hamster that would chase spiders up the curtains, jump off tthe top, land with a audiable thump and do it again and again, for two years.
So hamsters it is.
