Slashdot: AOL Bans Mail from DSL-hosted Servers
I wonder if they're also blocking mail from DSL *provider* servers, because there's a number of people on AOL who have not been able to get my E-mails.

I have come to the conclusion that AOhelL is run by a bunch of monkeys sitting a type writers. Every now and then, a series of legible words come from those monkeys, and some handler jumbles them together to make the policies of the system.
DOWN WITH AOL!!!

But this is directed evil. I don't think anything as random as monkeys can come up with this.

If you want more info,
here is a link to RFCIgnorant.org's posting of the AOL response message.
Those dumbasses at AOL really *do* think they can trample all over established RFCs, don't they?

Ah yes, AOL's typical idiocy. Can't those fuckers just die and/or make a fucking respectable ISP?

AOL fucks up the whole Internet. Their goddamned rotating proxy servers pay havoc with any kind of IP-based session authentication scheme, their E-mail service does not support auto-forwarding because they don't want you accessing mail on an AOL account unless you go through their software, etc. They don't give a shit about Internet standards, because at heart, they're still just an overgrown dial-up BBS.

I used to be with AOL, between myself and my sister we spent about 5-8 hours online every day, anyway, one day, we get a letter from AOL saying were now limited to 40 minutes online every day, we made a nice angry call and 40 minutes later I had a new ISP.

Sounds like a fake letter.....but I could be wrong. I just can't imagine why AOL would do that.....
I mean in my 3 years of working at AOL we never sent any letters like that, in fact we were told to encourage people to come online.

Yea, especially when AOL used to charge an hourly rate for time online...
I'll never go back! You hear me?!

That's great news from AOL. If this causes just one AOL subscriber to switch, then that's a good thing.

Canadians are lucky. They don't have to use AOL. Luckily, I don't have to either. The only good thing they do is give you those free firsbees in the mail.

They are fun to watch when a .30 caliber hollow point bullet is propelled at high speeds by my Winchester towards them...

Why hollowpoints? An FMJ will be just as effective on that type of target, and cost much less. And if you say that HPs are cheap over there, I'm gonna bonk you over the noggin with the butt of my rifle

More specifically, they're blocking anyone on a DHCP lease, even static leases, so this affects certain cable users as well.

Ted Turner has little to do with the operations of AOL-Time Warner.
