I am thinking of buying an R/C helicopter. Does anyone have one? Any information that I should know?

Nope, I've wanted to get one though. I have a R/C car thing with dual treds somewhere. It was cool. Vroom.

No, though I know of an R/C field in the area.

Damn, if you'd asked yesterday....we had a guy who was a major enthusiast staying at our B&B.

My friend has a R/C helicopter, as in real life they are very hard to fly.

You'll want to get yourself a stand and training wheels. The stand is a big tripod with an arm, it let's you fly your helicopter in a very small area, until you get use to balancing the thing with the collective/directional controls. Eventually move up to the training wheels, which are a big long struts stick out and make it hard for the aircraft to role over when landing.

The problem with helicopters is that you have an upward lift, controlled by the collective, but as you move in various directions the helicopter tilts (altering the amount of upwards force) and you need to constantly adjust to keep a constant upwards force. Its just a matter of practice, until it becomes almost like a reflex.

I've always wanted an RC airplane of some sort. My dad has an old 0.049 two-stroke engine that he got when he about 15, and a couple of wire controlled bodies to go with it. The only real problem is that the engine likes to start backwards all the time and because it's almost 45 years old it doesn't run too well at the best of times.
