Doesn't it seem that there is an awful number of mods on this board?

With Stravo added, theres like over a dozen supermods, which to me seems a bloody lot.

As well, each forum has its own 3 mods, 'cept A&P and Fanfic.

All forum mods except the gamers have several forums. I have four.

And the number of mods is about right. Don't expect it to increase in the near future, only rearrangements between the existing mods/supermods.

Who cares? None of them really abuse their power.

And also, we're a growing forum, and need the extra mods to keep things under control, although I'm sure the number we have will suffice for a long time.

We must maintain order across the Gala...err..forum.

I've never noticed it causing any problems, so it's okay with me.

With the general lack of sanity around here, we need those mods.
BTW, I belong to a board that has NO moderators, on the other hand.

There are as many mods as there needs to be. With as many forums as are there are and with as many flame wars, trolls, and plain old assholes we need all those mods. We don't pick people to be mods just for the hell of it; we have them because this is how many people we need.

Because bans are used rarely and discussion is pretty open it's pretty common for trouble or spam to get started. Add to that a fair number of members from Germany to Autstralia and some from all over the globe and we need mods all day long.

In short we have all the mods because we have to have that many.

Over at SCN, we only have 5 active mods, me being one of them. Of course, it isn't regularly the flame pit that this one can become.

The thing is though, this place ISN'T that bad of a flame pit.

We get, say, a troll or two a week.

Does that justify having about 20 mods?

But, I will abstain.

I really don't see the problem with twenty MODs. Unless of course, you just think it superflous and unneccesary.

On an unrelated note, I am accpeting MODship anytime you're ready.

It's not always. But the flames do break out often enough and there are still plenty of little things to keep the mods occuppied.

That's probably because you're on the "right side". I think the Christians and the Trekkies might have a bit of a different opinion on it.

Yes. We need moderators from many different time-zones, and most forums need multiple moderators because of the time-zone issue. Not only that, at least two forums would degrade further if left unmoderated.

And with all due respect, you haven't been on ASVS long enough. I've seen flamewars there that would make a seasoned SD.netter curl up into a fetal position.

Fine, 2 years, but in those 2 years, I haven't seen anything big. 5 or more years ago, maybe, but lately?

Having alot of mods is also good because that usually means they're sitting around with nothing better to do but drive up their post counts beyond belief. When visitors come in looking at those numbers, I bet alot of them think to themselves, "Wow, this must be a great board to post on."

So half of it is probably part of a subtle sales pitch.
