Get your fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid ideas

I've been there. It's awful.Frank Hipper wrote:Detroit needs to be on that list. Never been there, but I understand it's awful.
Actually, the situation in New York is much better these days then it has traditionally been, thanks in no small part to Giuliani.Darth Wong wrote:I've been there. It's awful.Frank Hipper wrote:Detroit needs to be on that list. Never been there, but I understand it's awful.
PS. I wonder how many votes New York would have gotten before 9/11.
Very little, NYC had undergone a FUCKING rennaisance under Giuliani. People were no longer getting mugged on the subways, graffitti became a weird thing of the 80's, Times Square became a true tourist attarction and not the home of Pimos and crack dealers. The city was not what you see in the movies of the late 70's and 80's.Darth Wong wrote:I've been there. It's awful.Frank Hipper wrote:Detroit needs to be on that list. You know, I actually kind of liked the grafitti-covered subway trains in the 80s. I remember visiting NYC once in the 80s and we saw a train that had been cleaned up. I was quite disappointed. Luckily, the next one was what I was looking forStravo wrote:Very little, NYC had undergone a FUCKING rennaisance under Giuliani. Bloomberg is such a fucking ass. Its like he's intentionally trying to make it worse for everyone. He's pissing on Downtown because he wants buisnesses to disperse throughout Manhattan and not get concentrated downtown. What he doesn't seem to realize or care is that there is Infrastructure there, fiber optics, etc FOR the businesses downtown. I read that he is intentionally ignoring the please from businesses to fix some of teh streets, etc. His no smoking ban is costing already hurting businesses (bars and clubs) almost 20% of profits weekly. The one thing you don't do when your city is in dire economic straits is make things worse just because you have a thing about smoking. What a fucking clown. I miss Giuliani, even with his anti-porn crap.Stravo wrote:Bloomberg is such a fucking ass. Its like he's intentionally trying to make it worse for everyone. I definately get a feeling like we're slipping back to the abyss that was the 80's under Dinkins (ABSOLUTE WORST MAYOR EVER)

Parts of the city could be called a postindustrial wasteland; Unions did a very good job of chasing out every single industry. However there are some nice areas within Philadelphia. Plus we have the Rocky steps and an armored cruiser.Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr.
