I think William Wallace was what's known as a Woad or something (insulting term?). The M5 is, I believe, a big road in the UK.

I thought woad was the blue stuff ancient picts used to paint themselves blue...and Wallace painted himself blue in Braveheart - although I heard that was a Hollywood fabrication.

I heard it did happen. Except not at that time for Wallace and crew to use it.
So not totally made up. Supposedly.
