I'm messing around my dad's new computer... Geforce 4 MX, SB Live, P4 1.4 Ghz, 512 MB of ram.... All he needed was a new motherbaord for his old one, but no, he has to get a whole new computer.
Nice, but I'm stuck with an old POS Dell that only has 1 functioning (5 gig) hard drive, half a functioning RAM stick (never leave ram chips unattended, they tend to die on you), and a Radeon 7200 as a gaming computer. While he has the comp im on now for ... taxes and AOL.... damnit this sucks.

Well, how good is his old computer, Spec wise?
And it's in workng order apart from the Motherboard, right?
So can't you just cannibalise it to upgrade yours?

HD, graphics, and sound should be fair game... and you might even be able to utilise the processor and ram too.

The P4 starts at 1.7GHz.

Put in a new HD and a half-gig of RAM. It's all cheap anyway.

Old comp= Voodoo 3 (low-end, can't remember exactly), 128 MB of ram (that my comp won't recognize, my Dell hates anything thats not exactly like what's already in there, and apparently my dad's has diff. brand), Older model Soundblaster Live (which I already tried to take, but my Dell didn't like it-- every time a sound would play the computer would go to BSoD and die for a few min), and a Pentium 2 (can't remember specs on that either, but worse than my P3 in any case).

So, I think that's out of the question. (and before you ask about cannabilizing the good parts of new comp, he wont let me near the case , so I doubt that will happen)

Cheap isn't cheap enough when you have no money..... Well, there is money, but none for poor old Mitt's computer....
