About the war college

Post by Azeron »

Anyways, I have been vacationing in newport for the long weekend, and I was perusing the shops, and decided to pay a visit to Fort Adams. On the way there, I ran into an army officer (rank I am unsure of) on the boat to the fort where all the army houses were. Anways, I asked him about what happened at the war college with that war simulation that a third world force kicked our ass in. (commanded by a marine general)

anyhow, this is the straight dope.

1) It was asn evaluation simulation, with live troops on the field on both sides.

2) most of the moves that were disqualified were disqualified on the grounds that the troops on the ground couldn;t perform the tasks at hand

3) the marine general kicked the living crap out of an entire team of specialist tactitions that do this for a living.

4) they refloated the force because they wanted to test landing tacctics and broke it down into 2 segments for evaluation later

Anhow, the general just wanted to win, and he did technically, and they admitted it, but it really wasn;t about winning or losing, but strategy. they didn;t want him to play like a brilliant 1t world general in comand of a 3rd world army, but as a Sadamn or any of those goons who parade themselves as generals in the arab world.

they learned allot from the session, and even though they parted on bad terms they were very happy with what they got. It poked up some key vulnerabilities in the future force planning. And they think they can compensate for it.

anhow hope you like this,

Thaks, that was interesting.
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.

They do have some good generals in 3rdW countries, it just happens that they usually don't become the ruling 'general x'... wonder why?

I saw that e-mail. There are some who feel that the OPFOR are deliberately hampered in order to advance an up and coming system or concept. That happens at all echelons.

The Army (and indeed all military branches) are pushing digitization, and those who stand in the way of progress are in danger of being ingloriously pushed out of the way (early carreer enders). Those who play the part of the OPFOR owe the US military the most cunning and adaptive enemy scenarios possible.

In my opinion, the OPFOR should not exist to validate a concept so much as it should point out weaknesses in that concept. After all, actual enemies may hold nothing back and will be quite adaptive.

Well 11 of the major problems in the marine general's plan, which was brilliant, were he presence of tencious troops willing to go on basically a suicide mission for him. In hte countries this hypothetical nation was modeled on, that isn't the case. The only reason they were able to sink most of the US leet, is because all the men on the red force's ships were willing to be sent to bottom of the sea. no ships made it back after the attack.

Blue force could get the volunteers, its doubtful, irl that red force could
