ok. so i'm sleeping in bed last night. it was nice outside , so i had the window open. i'm having a nice dream about hula girls and mai tai's or whatever and all of a sudden i'm startled awake by the earsplitting sound of grinding and air pressure and big diesel engines. i look at the clock- 2:30 am. my room is now illuminated by flashing yellow light. What the fuck! i say to myself. at this point my fiancee is awake too. so i run to the window, and what do i see? City trucks, and street cleaners! power washing the streets and sidewalks at 2:30 in the fucking morning! as if all that racket wasn't bad enough, now there are fat hairy guys ( one of which i learned was named Paulie) yelling things like 'dammit back that fucker up, you missed one!' arrrrgggghhhhh! it took them over half an hour to clean the street in front of my apartment and get far enough away for it to be quiet enough to go back to sleep. bastards!

I feel your pain. Since I sleep during the day lots of crap of a similar nature wakes me up all the time. Still, your particular situation sounded worse than the norm. It is also strange that they'd be so noisey at 2:30am.

I live right next to railroad tracks. There is a midnight train that always blows it horn just as it passes. Took me 6 months to get used to it, now I sleep through it, but it sucks when you are watching tv and a train goes by. Usually drowns out the sound.

Right now there is construction going on the other side of the tracks. I hope it is not a busy store or something.
