Yeah, it was sort of like that for me in AP US History...I spent the entire year as a low-B student at best, but by the the time the AP Exam came around I kicked everyone's ass on the practice exams and eventually got a 5 on the actual exam (something I highly recommend, since it gave me a full six hours of college credit).

I don't have finals for another few weeks, but I'm probably going to blow them anyway, even if I study. I always end up studying everything that isn't on the test for some reason.

I had to take CAT and Stanford tests last week... Boring as hell. I was always one of the first to finish, and my school is filled with many geniuses.

There was one section with 4 questions like "'-5 + -3' is?", and you have 10 minutes to finish that. The whole class did it in 1 minute, and spent the rest just sitting around bored...

Took the AP Art History exam today. The multiple choice section was the usual piece of cake, and from the questions asked I was able to extrapolate the sum total of human artistic endeavor, complete with names, dates, and sociopolitical context from the dawn of mankind to 2417. Studying? What's that?

History finals. Easy as hell.

Pericles. The Battle of Zama. Darius. Marathon. Charles the Hammer. The Reformation. The Treaty of Torsedillas.

Done and done.

I know the feeling. The sad thing is, 2/3 of the Lowell class of 2004 actually failed the HSEE. Top 3 schools nation-wide my ass.

I remember that section! Everyone in the room was freaking out and then they realized the test was divided into 2 parts.

Yes... I'm confident not one person in our class, if not our school will fail though.

We're top HS in California :P

University finals aren't like high school finals. They don't actually write them with the intent of allowing almost all of the students to pass (well, they do in the arts faculty, but not in any sort of course requiring real work).

But presumably they don't intentionally try to fail people. Wouldn't the whole point of the final be to see who actually knows the material that was taught?

And who can function under pressure, and work out problems they have NOT seen before, etc.

Or, to put it another way, if you want the best, then you need to weed out the rest.

I second that...

University science and mathematics based finals are damn hard.

Yes, but if a professor had some crazily intelligent and competent group of students, I wouldn't expect him to write an especially hard final so he could have the honor of flunking a bunch of them.

I have AP US History tomorrow. I know I'll do alright on it, but that doesn't stop me from feeling like I'll totally bomb it.

I took the AP Euro one last year. If you've been prepared adequately, its not that bad. If you've gone through a decent review process for the multiple-guess section, and have been writing essays out the wazoo, you'll be fine.

I got a 5.

Ah, US History. I forgot the names of the first 5 presidents and denounced the 19th century reform movements (including abolition and women's suffrage) as anti-democratic. I still got a 4.

My Chemistry teacher spent two semesters trying to flunk everyone.

He told me he had to narrow down a class of about 65 people to about 4 before everyone got to Organic chem.

I might also point out that I'm going to a Junior College, which is supposedly easier than a university. When some of the students went to their friends at the university that were taking the same class, their friends said what we were learning in Chem 101 was wayyyy over their heads. They didn't even understand half the shit.
