crappity crap! more severe weather forecast for tomorrow

man oh man. We had a serious bout of severe weather this weekend, four tornadoes came through the metro area, 6 of 7 counties declared disaster areas. Hundreds of homes and businesses damaged or destroyed (strangely enough, it only rained for a little bit at my house). Sunday night, 40,000 were without power. The damage estimates are already reaching into the hundreds of millions.

And tomorrow, we have ferocious storm system coming to town, another vigorous triple-point low with high shear, with the bulls-eye right on us again. Not to wish bad fortune on anyone, but I hope this round misses us.

Some interesting things from Sunday:

- checks and assorted paperwork have been found 50 miles away.
- the irony of tornadoes: lots of weird video on the news, one house completely demolished, nothing left but the foundation, while a house across the street isn't even missing any shingles and not a window broken. Or a china cabinet standing tall, nothing amiss, but the roof is gone (not in a pile in the yard, just gone.
- although this was the worst outbreak of tornadoes recorded in the city, only one person died. Forecasts, storm sirens, radar, warnings, etc. have improved so much in the last 30 years. A much smaller tornado came through town in '77, killed 40 some odd people -- they had little or no warning, but this time, we had all the news channel choppers chasing the storm, warning people far in advance.
