One of my pet peeves [Semi rant]

What is the problem with young teens these days?, 3 Mornings over the last fortnight I've been on my way to school and all I can hear (Over my headphones mind you) is some group of 13 year olds playing with their stupid musical ringtones. And despite numerous people around them telling them to shut up or at least put the volume setting down, they just blatantly told people of all ages to just shut up (Meaning adults asked them to shut up too).

Is there any way to teach these young assholes some respect?

This is the result of lax parenting. I've seen lots of insufferable, self-centreed brats and when you look at the way their parents treat them, it's obvious where the problem lies.

If they like listening to their phones ringing so much, get their numbers and give their phones a work out.

Jebus, I hate fucking cell phones, ever since my soon-to-be 13-year-old sister got one. If you're going to have a cell phone, could you at least not have a fucking retarded synthisized mockery of actual music? There are fucking normal phone rings, y'know. My school's policy is that you are not allowed to have cell phones on while you're on the campus. Of course, that stops approximately 0.01% of cell phone whores. In the middle of fucking class, BAM!, (insert retarded high-pitched annoying sound here). WTF!? Fucking retards.

I know your pain, many's been a night when my sister and her friends have been up "testing" their ringtones.

They need to open up the regs so that cell-phone jammers can be freely sold to the public. I would gladly buy one, just to switch it on when I see some asshole starting to have a really loud conversation in a movie theatre.

You and about a zillion others I would think. Is it possible to jam them at cinemas, by installing one in the roof or something?

Yeah, some restaurants and movie theatres in Hong Kong have started picking the things up. The problem is regulatory bullshit; if a jammer has a large radius, it can mess up cellphones outside the user's property line, so he runs afoul of broadcast rules.

One solution has been to design special sandwich-board walls which are virtually opaque to the frequency of the cell-phones. Once you go inside a structure insulated with this board, your cell-phone goes dead. But unless somebody actually goes to the expense to install this shit, it's not good for anything.

I hate musical ringtones. My phone goes silent in class, goes off in cinemas, and does not have a retarded muscial ringtone. It's just an ordinary ring.

I changed my cell phone's ring to something different from the default, so that I wouldn't constantly check myself whenever I had it on. Of course, most of the time it's clipped to my belt, and I'm in a situation where ringing would be a bad thing, so I just let it vibrate. That way there is no question if it is my phone or someone else's.

I decided to get the Galactica theme music ringtone for my cell phone, and so far it's worked beautifully. It isn't half as annoying as most ringtones out there, and even at maximum volume it's so quiet that usually it manages to run more than halfway through before I notice (something to do with the nature of the sounds in it), and the thing is clipped to my belt all the time. It doesn't bother anyone in public places. In school and in the cinema it goes silent, I can always check later if anybody called.

As for bratty kids, I hate them too. You can see a lot of them around, but most of the time they rein in most of the obnoxiousness. Could have something to do with the fact that here they recognize that mouthing off at the wrong person might just get their ass kicked, and most parents instill at least some sense of common courtesy in them.

What most annoys me is slow people, fucking sheep mobs. Every single day, whenever going to and from the train station, most people shuffle along at snail's pace, and for people like me whose normal walking pace is a good, fast clip, it's a nightmare. The fucking idiots don't ever give way, will always move seemingly intentionally to block your way, and then give you hard time when you ask them politely to let you past. It's worse going up or down escalators, people standing right in the middle, or in a group blocking the way. The latter I ask, again politely, to give way, and if they give me shit (has happened a few times), I'll just barge past and very rudely shove them out of the way. If they want to make something of shit they started, that's their problem...
I guess this annoys me so much because I always keep tabs on what's happening around me and I immediately give way to people who are in a hurry and generally make a point of not getting into other people's way, something about 90%+ of your regular crowd does not do.

If that isn't bad enough, how about these people who use cellphones as address books, PDAs, cameras, Game Boys and MP3 players?

Fuck, doesn't anyone use their phone to talk to people anymore?!?!

You can probably blame the manufacturers for adding all that extra stuff. There was a scandal here where a movie star was unknowingly photographed nude by a Nokia 7650.

Erm...you do know that there are PDAs with built-in cellular phones, right? Hence it would be a PDA with a cell-phone option.

I don't know about you, but having a tiny computer like that would be fucking awesome. Just put some keyboards in my pants and some sweet glasses for showing the information on the screen, ear-clip headset, and awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay I go! Yeah, that would fucking rock. 8)

I think I'm going to go get a shitload of electronic parts and just BUILD a damn jammer.

When I went to see TTT for the first time some damn freshman behind me was blabbing the whole damn time.

"Yeah, the movie sucks...yeah, Jim really is a fag..."

Next time that happens, -flick!- and that fucker gets what's coming to him...

... pisses me off no end. We had someone's phone go off three times in one lecture. Same phone.

I'm glad cell phones are banned here in good ol' OPRFHS. I also seldom go to public places, so I'm spared the irritation the rest of the sane world endures. I also hate people who spend hours on the phone, cell, pay, or otherwise. :x

I got given a mobile for my birthday, and though I find it handy I have more issues getting the fucking thing to work than its worth.

Can I just tell you all how fucking RUDE it is for people to leave their cell phones on during concerts?! There is always a reminder at the door to turn them off, someone (usually me at my school concerts) gets up before the performance to remind the audience, and it's printed on the programs, and yet there are ALWAYS self-centered, myopic fucktards who are like, "Yeah, who cares how long these kids have worked this year to put on this concert--if Blah-dee-blah calls me, I need to take that call! Fuck their stupid performance! And wait, let me turn it up so I'll be sure to hear it over their awful honking/banging/crashing/squeaking/etc.! It's not like people are here to actually listen to them or anything."

Assholes.

This happened in a play with actor Kevin Spacey. Someone left their cell phone on and it rung. Kevin Spacey stopped right in the middle of his acting, turned towards the audience with a face that could send children running in fear, and asked "I'm sorry, am I interrputing something very important of yours?" in an extremely sarcastic tone. The audiene just stared at the poor fellow who left his cell phone on. The guy left the theatre in shame.

*applauds Kevin Spacey* Seriously, does it really take THAT much consideration to at least turn the damn thing to vibrate when you go out somewhere? Jezus...

Shame if I did that in the middle of one of my concerts, parents would be up in arms to admin against me, since I would have offended them by putting their child's performance ahead of their business affairs or extramarital affairs or whatever. Teachers are the lowest of the low, if you didn't know. We aren't allowed to have strong opinions because--heaven forbid!--someone will get upset. Gah...

*rocks back and forth* It's almost June, it's almost June, it's almost June, it's almost June...
