Got a couple of police in the cafe at the moment, been sitting around having coffees for the past 30 minutes and were just joined by some more.

My questions:

1) Do Tassie police do anything?

2) Just how long a freakin' break do you get?

Though, admittedly, stocking up on caffeine and sugar before a friday night shift isn't a bad idea.

Ok, as much as I like cops, I have to rant about law enforcement. Why do these damn cops have to treat law enforcement as a big fund raiser? They go out, see how many people they can hit in the wallet and then call it a night. And in between, they get hyped up on caffeine and powdered donuts...

Actually I don't have a problem with the police fining people. And I don't have a problem with speed and redlight cameras (glares at Shep), if you're breaking the law, then does it matter how you get caught?

As for the powdered donuts, they aren't big here. The police drink coffee then when it gets late they'll usually get a curry or similarly bad asian or italian.

Speaking as the son of a retired New York City Housing cop, I can honestly say that donuts are not the only thing you're gonna eat and fining someone is the least of your worries. We're talking about trips to the South Carolina Kitchen after a long day of calls involving women who have demons in their sinks

Its called 12/16-hour shifts on weekends, most cops do it, and will generally take a hour or so break somewhere in there to decompress for a bit.
Believe me , they often need it.

A friend of mine is an Indiana State Trooper, he's got stories that would grey your hair and shit yourself. Tickets and speeders are the LAST of their worries compared to Hells Angles, The Outlaws(nasty local bikers), coke/heroin runners, and meth freaks who are so high they can take three .357 JHP rounds and not even slow down(true story).

I'm well aware of all this, but they seem to be hanging out a lot more recently.

Maybe your place just gives off a "cop friendly' vibe, in my book this is not a thing to be distressed about. The local police loved to come by the Pizza Hut I worked at to get their lunches and the night shifters would roll by about a half hour before closing(2am on weekends) to get a pizza or two.(the 20% Cop Discount didnt scare them off one bit eiether) Always made me comfy to have three or four armed officers in the dining room while I counted down my night cash drops and closed up shop

Half the crowd i run with is scared shitless of cops. Basically because they're doing stuff too 'unlegal' for their own good. The other half ... well they're clean as a whistle, so when im with them and i see police nearby i still have second thoughts about them. Although its never a concern on their mind. Its been my experiance that some cops have nothing better to do with their time, so they find some way of entertaining themselves... weither it be hanging out in your cafe, or fucking with friends of mine .... heh... good times

Maybe its because Lancaster is a wholly student town, but the police here are far more active than they were in Newcastle (which, although it is a 2 university town, is just plain bigger, so you dont see as many police on the beat or patrolling in cars). You stroll round Newcastle at night, and you'll be lucky to see 2 police cars all night, you wander round Lancaster and you see 3 or 4 in an hour...

Over here in Belfast the Police can't do things like go to coffee shops. If they're on a break they better get back to the station. PSNI officers are still considered ligitimate targets and the cease-fire is nothing but a joke now. If the provies knew there was a room full of cops the place would be bombed to fuck. Also the Police get a less than friendly reception from the public due to them being piggy-in-the-middle of the Peace Process.
