I Fucking Hate the Sun!

Post by Wicked Pilot »

I just got back from spending all day at the annual Barksdale air show, and I am fucking burnt. Goddamnit, does sunscreen actually work? I put buckets full of SPF-30 on myself and I still look like a damn crawfish. I was covered in more grease than Richard Simmons and while my arms came out OK, my face and parts of my legs look like the Canadian flag. (speaking of Canadians, the Snow Birds were there. While I found their planes to be unimpressive, their flight precision was awesome.) Anyway, does anyone have any methods to cure and/or relieve sunburns?

It depends on how resistant your skin is naturally against the sun. The SPF acts like a multiplier on that.

Hehe. You look like the Canadian flag.

Yes, generally that is true, but when the Thunderbirds, Snowbirds, Golden Knights, multiple warbirds, and F-15 & A-10 demonstrations are flying...

--Aleo Vera is good and so is a cold bath. Your sun screen was probably wiped off or sweated off. BTW, just because you feel greasy doesn't mean the sunscreen is still there. Get the non-greasy stuff that is water and sweat proof. SPF30 is plent of protection for just about everyone for an entire day. I know since I'm 1/2 irish and have been in the lab so long that even my freckles are white compared to most people... :)

Sun good. Several friends + nice trails + bright sun + long run = good times.

It's not so much the Sun I hate, it's this absolutely MORONIC weather pattern we've been stuck with. 90F and 70% Humidity!? WHAT THE FUCK!!??

Ugh, no kidding. Here in Iowa the weather is pretty chaotic around this time as the seasons transition.

Yesterday it was probably in the high 70s or low 80s with high humidity and not even a breeze.

Today it's in the mid 40s and overcast with some humidity and high winds.

yeah sunburn can be a bitch, Colorado's wonderful selection of harmful UV rays have made life crappy sometimes. Aloe Vera really does the trick though, it both cools and makes that crimson turn into a nice pink.

Thanks, we're trying to petition to get them some more modern birds.

SPF-MAX, whatever the heck that is seems to be the only thing while working airshows, the sunlight reflecting off the ramp and runways seems to be almost as bad as from old Sol direct. London Airshow the last weekend in June coming up, so have to stock up on the sunscreen.
Did you get some good shots? :)

Quite true...if you live in a desert with blinding sun everyday. I loved the time I lived in Kuwait, but jesus christ did I ever get sunburned during the first summer I was there! In a more moderate climate which we have here I'd have to rewrite that statement of yours.

Inside bad. Ummm...dust bunnies evil(?).

Outside good. :D

I haven't had many problems with the sun and it's evil burning rays, even when I'm not wearing sunscreen outside, probably because I'm wearing a shirt and long pants in those cases, and I don't go outside for lnog periods of time in those cases. And, I wasn't ghostly pale to begin with, so I wasn't compelled to bake myself in the sun and get skin cancer to look good.

I'm half-Mexican, so I wander around wearing nothing but shorts in Florida sun regularly and I'm no worse for the worry.

Wicked - ALOE VERA , buy stock in it! Aloe gel and I are old friends seeing as I burn if I drive to the store and leave my arm out the window for more than 5 mins. My skins melanin count is French and at the first hint of the evil sun , they surrender and I burn like bacon on a griddle.
If I am out in the sun I use SPF-45+ and I'll still end up tender.

I'm pale enough that if I am going to be out for long, say more than a half hour in direct sunlight, I need the 55 spf stuff... water-proof and sweat-proof. I haven't gone out with bare shoulders since that 2nd degree burn with quarter-sized blisters in 2nd grade.

For those who might be interested, Kmart and Walmart sell a 70 spf sunblock. I haven't tried it, but it looks intimidating. The bottle is gray...

ALOE VERA!!

And use a higher SPF. And *make sure* to rub it in. If you don't you'll burn through it.
