Yes, I went to the Vatican to see one of his Sunday Window Sermons. They have those huge speakers and all, but the man speaks in a weird mixture of Latin and Italian and I (as well as 90% of the people there) couldn't understand a word. It was nice, though.

In general, italian is similar enough to Portuguese that we can understand ourselves without resorting to english, which is good because their english is often awful.

The fist big impression I had was that in Rome, commuting by car or foot is a War of Survival. Romans drive like maniacs who have never heard about strange notions like the "driving code" and "careful driving". I thought the portuguese were bad, but we are fucking nordics compared to these guys.

The same with commerce. They will get your money, no matter how. In a restaurant, I asked for a pizza that was chart priced 8 €, and a coke. After waiting for a long time and being subjected to an awful service, I finally ate and asked for the bill. It was 16 - fucking - €, just the double. The reason, in Italy they can charge "service fees" that is the modic amount of 15% of the total bill. Also, they charged 5 € for the fucking coke :x

However, even with the maniac and mobster part of them, they're a very friendly people, and aside the pickpocketing Rome is famous for, very kind to tourists (more so to us latin cousins).

Often the case with Latin-derived languages.

I heard stories about Rome drivers from my mom and grandma too. They're from a small town southeast of Rome.

Aiaiaiaiaiai! Me like italian... Even though those could be tourists... :D

About the prices, I had a few friends who went there, and they complained the same... 16 €???? For that, I would demand being served by a nice italian girl!
