First Gun Show
Yesterday, I went to my first gun show simply out of curiousity. I don't own any firearms, nor am I really a gun nut. That's not to say I'm not good with them, I'm fully qualified on the M-9 and M-16. I'm just not a gun freak like some of the others on this board. Anyway, they had a lot of guns there. I'd hadn't seen so much firepower since visiting the 2nd Bomb Wing. There was everything from small little pistols to M-4s. It was kinda cool being able to pick up and hold so many weapons in one day. There was also a large assortment of knives, but most were cheap crap. Besides the overwhelming amounts of guns, there was also a shit load of rednecks there. I have never seen so many rednecks in one place. I mean these were your stereotypical guys in overalls with no shirts wearing camo hats. There were also hundreds of confederate flags, shirts with confederate flags on them, bunper stickers with confederate flags on them, books about confederate flags, belt buckles with confederate flags, and other misc confederate stuff. I also loved this one table filled with conspiracy theory books about how the UN was going to take over America. It also happened to be the same table with the big ass poster proclaiming that "We believe in God's laws" and goes on to list the Ten Commandments. Perhaps there is a connection.
Just to some it up, besides all the right-wing the south will rise again crap, it was a pretty good display. The whole point to this story: well, there is none.

Being a member of a minority race, I don't think I would ever be allowed into a gun show. I have heard stories about them from my friends, however.

Gun shows are fun, even if you don’t walk away with anything..
Is always cool when the Air force or Army shows up to the bigger ones with Stingers or Sidewinders. I recall they once had a dummy Maverick at one show.

Perhaps I should go to one, someday. When I lived in Israel, though, if you went to the wrong place you could be killed (or, at least, abused). Maybe it's just one of those Post Traumatic Stress factors kicking in again. Oh well....

I woundn't be concerned. Gun shows are one of the safest places you could be, I've never even seen a single argument at one let alone any violence.

Incidentally, as a Republican I want to see one someday. Maybe I'll get my chance pretty soon.

The last gun show I went to, I picked up a Walther P38. Really nice and kept in good condition.
Gun shows are fun. I don't care for the red necks, but I do enjoy window shopping the different firearms.
Here is a link as to what it looks like. I have not fired it yet.

Hmm I wonder how many people have been killed at Gun shows?
(I remeber a guy drowned at a gun show once, no I had nothing to do with it desipite how ironic it was)

I don't know about racism, but I have a pretty good idea that if I went to a gun show wearing a "Proud to be Atheist" T-shirt, I should make sure the local hospital has some of my blood type on supply first.Manji wrote:WTF?
I guess you've swallowed the "right wing gun owner = racist" propaganda put out by the libs.
Go to a gun show and take a look around. It'll wake you up a bit.

Just goes to show that most frothing at the mouth gun types dont give a rats ass about the other admendments.don't know about racism, but I have a pretty good idea that if I went to a gun show wearing a "Proud to be Atheist" T-shirt, I should make sure the local hospital has some of my blood type on supply first.
To be honest, I don't think so MW. Most of the gun shows I've been to are populated with collectors, not idiot RW ppl. My dad picked up an 1800 rifle that was really pretty. Engravings of wildlife and all. And he is about as right as you can get. Though he is an atheist.
I mentioned the red necks in my previous post because they are always there. But they are the not the norm or the majority.
I bought a sabre at the show before the last. It is really nice. Civil war engravings and I hung it in my study/office. Gun shows have changed in the last couple years. I don't see many militia ppl there anymore, mostly just folks who are interested in collecting older firearms.
I skip the nazi shit though. The last show I went to had a lot of nazi stuff for sale. I really don't understand how an American could buy crap like that. Those guys were the enemy. I guess its the power of myth. But my grandfather fought against them, so I bypass it.
I think you should attend one. Its a good time and the majority of the people are very nice and are just having fun. Its a love of history and firearms. Not much else. Plus the hot dogs are great. If you like hot dogs, you'll love the gun show.

It's still functional, but doesn't look very shiny anymore.

Well these objects can still be regarded as the silent witnesses of a dark age which shall never be forgotten to prevent history from repeating itself.
Whoa! That one was good!
