Heaviest songs

OK, all you people who like the metal, what's one of the heaviest yet acest songs you've ever heard?

I'm not talking about ones which are one long guitar solo, or with profound lyrics....i'm talking about sheer aggression within the confines of some kind of structure (preferably with repetetive bits, like the repeating bit at the end of davidian by machine head).

On a side note has anyone else noticed how there's several similar bits in songs...like the end of davidian by machine head, the start of "bitter peace" by slayer, the start of "fall from grace" by morbid angel...they all sound hella similar....anyone know of other songs with this bit in?

Just thinking.."downstroy" by soulfly has a similar bit in too....

I hope to one day, make the heaviest song ever. I need to find the heaviest bits of all music ever.

To this end, a song that everyone should remember is Bach's Toccatta and Fugue in D Minor...song of vampires everywhere.

We ARE referring to Black Sabbath, right? I just listened to it after listening to all the tunes I just listed and while I like the tune, Morbid Angel blew Sabbath over. Have you listened to any of the tunes I've listed, out of curiosity?

The Black Sabbath one? It's not quite "In The Name Of God" (slayer)or "Sellout"(Biohazard) kind of weight though is it?

Agreed. It's deep in it's passion, but didn't really inspire me to start the notorious 1 person mosh pit...

My dear, methinks you have either NEVER have listened to a note of music from any of the groups I mentioned, or you have your catagories GROSSLY confused.

Morbid Angel is Death metal. Nile is mythical death metal. Messhugah UBER-complicated Death metal. Darkane is Black/thrash. Vader is Death metal. Lockup is a borderline-death blackmetal band.
I would gladly excuse your ignorance if it weren't for the heinous act of
CALLING MAYHEM NU-METAL. THIS IS A HERETICAL ACTION, M'Dear.
Mayhem is black metal at it's beginnings. Way before Korn. Way before Limp Bizkit. Way before the term "nu-metal" originated. These guys are some of the more influential guys to many people on the black metal scene.

I'm a triva monster, he described the Bass heavy, (Guitar and drums) style of music back in the 1960s and with some help from friends of David Bowie managed to get the first heavy metal concernt together in New York.
(This was just before Alice Cooper went from Glam to metal)

Are you sure? last time i heard, stuff like cradle of filth and dimmu borgir (wooo puritania, woo) were black metal, motorhead was death metal, and cannibal corpse, and napalm death were grindcore.

or something like that. Gah. music labels dont work. Good metal and bad metal, good none metal, bad none metal, simple as.

*ignores growling pretending to be singing*

Alice is Hard Rock, sweetie. He never claims to be metal (at what album do you claim him as metal?)

I'll alway list Tony Iommi as the inventor of Heavy Metal. After all, it is his music after which the term was coined.

Damn you heretics!
Iron Maiden wrote:I left alone, my mind was blank,
I needed time to think, to get the memories from my mind
What did I see? Can I believe
That what I saw that night was real and not just fantasy

Just what I saw in my old dreams,
Were they reflections of my warped mind staring back at me
'Cause in my dreams it's always there,
The evil face that twists my mind and brings me to despair

Night was black,
Was no use holding back,
'Cause I just had to see
Was someone watching me
In the mist, Dark figures move and twist,
Was this all for real
Or some kind of hell

666 -- the number of the beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released

Torches blazed
And sacred chants were praised,
As they start to cry
Hands held to the sky
In the night,
The fires burning bright,
The ritual has begun,
Satan's work is done

666 -- the number of the beast
Sacrifice is going on tonight

(2:46-Solo: Dave Murray)
(3:15-Solo: Adrian Smith)

This can't go on,
I must inform the law,
Can this still be real
Or some crazy dream?
But I feel drawn toward the evil chanting hordes,
Seem to mesmerize me, can't avoid their eyes

666, the number of the beast
666, the one for you and me

I'm coming back, I will return,
And I'll possess your body and I'll make you burn
I have the fire, I have the force,
I have the power to make my evil take its course

Growling -> singing = fear factory superior band.

id agree with tony making heavy metal, but sabbath songs do sound well punky, albeit with different chords. Like slayer sound really hardcore punk, but with metal chords on several of their albums.

Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir are both technically under the black metal umbrella, albeit they are the more commercial ones out there. Motorhead as death metal? Not that I've heard.... Cannibal Corpse and Napalm agreed are grindcore. The examples you just gave technically would fall very much in the catagories you associated them with, but I wouldnt' say that they are representitive of the genre.

Death Metal: One of the more extreme forms of metal, death metal is basically an offshoot of thrash, with less melodic riffs and a deep growl being the predominant form of vocals. The pitch range of the foundation tends to be in the lower range. Morbid Angel, Meshuggah, Obituary, At the Gates, Bal Sagoth
Black Metal : Often characterized by an inherently evil tone and a raspy vocal style. Pitch focus range is higher. Mayhem, Emperor, Dark Throne, Venom, Bathory
Grindcore/thrash: Brutal Truth, Cannibal Corpse (gore-core, heh), Napalm Death.

Often people will add prefixes or suffixes to these genres, such as melodic, gothic, epical, etc to help better describe a group. For example, Bal Sagoth would fall in the category of "Orchestral Barbarian Death Metal". Finntroll might fall in the category of "Finnish folk black metal".
