Those are the two areas of engineering that I am most interested of earning my degree; however, I need some suggestions of which I should choose. My father has his degree in electrial, and my brother is going for the same, but I am having doubts about that area. When I started college, I asumed that I would be going for the electrical degree, but after seeing a few of my fellow managers at work graduate and look for jobs with no avail, I have been thinking about mechanical. Would my chances of getting a job be better, or would it even matter? There is the other possibiltiy of a position opening up when I graduate. What do you guys think?

Job prospects with an electrical engineering degree will be much better. Electrical engineers can also land IT positions much easier than those from the other engineering fields.

The same for a mechanical engineer [with a specialization in computation]. Only a minority end up really doing engineering.

I'm a mechanical engineer, so you might say I'm a bit biased. But, anyway..

If you want to learn how a space shuttle engine works, take mechanical. If you want to know how the circuits of the said shuttle works, take electrical.

Both are needed. But mechanical is more fun. Also, you get to blow things up more often.

Yeah I know, but I said it'd be easier with an electrical.
