AOTC to get IMAX release.

Post by Tsyroc »

It looks like AOTC is set to be released in IMAX format on November 1st. According to the article on Cinescape.com it's supposed to hit 70 theaters.

Pretty cool. :D

If it doesn't come to one of the local IMAX theatres, I'm going to kill many, many people.

70 theaters is a pretty good release. It's more than they are starting Apollo 13 off at (20). Hopefully it will make the rounds so more people can see it in superhuge format.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to see it. There are two IMAX theatres within a few miles of me, including one of the dome theatres (I so hope that one gets it).

And if neither of those get it, the Sony Metreon definitely will, and then I bet there's at least one other one in the area that I don't even know about.

The IMAX closest to me is a couple of hours away, up in the Phoenix area. :?

Up in the Phoenix area? You live pretty far south, I gather.

Yeah, my sister lives in Flagstaff, she'd have to go either to Phoenix or Vegas to see it. But she's not crazy like me, so she won't be doing that.

EDIT: I just read you location tag on the left. Put me in a pink Cadillac and call me Elvis; I should've noticed. There're no IMAX theatres in Tucson? That's a damned shame.

Cool, we've got a few IMAX places in town, including the Omnimax dome thing. Ahhh, it's nice to live in a big city sometimes.

Ack! It says "about 70 screens around the country."

Does that mean it will only be in the US?

Shit, there's an IMAX theatre in Cedar Rapids (hometown and 45 minutes away), but they only play "educational" stuff like Mt. Everest and sharks and shit.

God damn it!!

It probably means the reporter isn't aware that there are inhabited land masses outside the United States.

PS. We have no less than five IMAX theatres here in Toronto. If at least one of them doesn't carry it, I will be very pissed off.

I'm pretty sure there's one in Orlando but it's probably at Epcot Center and I'm not sure they would play AOTC.

It's not really suprising. Despite our population I doubt enough people would go to an IMAX theater to support it.

That many huh? I was aware of 3 or 4, but sheesh, this must be about the greatest concentration of IMAX theatres in any city. Mmmm, Padme's tits'll be like 15m across! :D

Yeah, I was wondering about that. One of the IMAX theatres around here is at Paramount's Great America, so I don't think they'll be showing it. Plus, the admission there is upwards of forty bucks.

But that doesn't matter; I want to see it on the dome! *salivates uncontrollably*

One of the IMAX theatres is a dome at the Museum of Science and Industry, so I doubt they'll do it. The commercial one may very well, though.

Heh heh ... yeah, there's one in Ontario Place, one at the Science Center, one downtown, one in Woodbridge (Hwy 400 and 7), and one in Mississauga (QEW and Winston Churchill IIRC). The one at the Science Center only plays educational/nature stuff, but the rest will play other things.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the article I read said there were no plans for international release.

This means I need a bus, a lot of gas, and directions to the Canadian denizens. For Star Wars in an IMAX theatre is worthy of a road trip if nothing else is.

According to http://www.IMAX.com:

Toronto has three, Mississauga has one, London has one, Niagra Falls has one, Sudbury has one (though I wouldn't consider that in the Toronto area), and Woodbridge has one (though I don't know where that is).
So the Toronto area has 5 plus one in London, and one wherever Woodbridge is (intersection of Hwy 400 and Hwy 7 is in Woodbridge, from what I can tell...maybe you Ontarians know where that is).

My own Bay Area has 4.

The Los Angeles area has 5.

The New York area has 7.

I haven't checked to see if any other areas have more than that, but I'm willing to bet it's the most.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Actually, Canada is considered "domestic" by Hollywood. I'm not sure whether we should feel flattered or annoyed by that :)

I'd suggest both. :)

They probably consider anything in "Region 1" domestic. Plus there are a lot of people who work in Hollywood who are from Canada. :)

Feel annoyed, it'll keep with the pattern. :)
