True, but we were told about it in thier 138 episode spectacular.
I suppose that all of the characters played by Phil Hartman must also be dead, as he has now passed away (Troy McLure, Lionel Hutz, etc.)
And Lunch Lady Dorris

Just like Mr. McLure told us that the cash register ringed up NRA4EVR?
And Lunch Lady Doris was done by Mr. Hartman?

Lunchlady Dorris wasn't done by Hartman, but the woman who did her died. I think her "in Memory of ..." comes after the episode where Homer forms a bowling team.
Did they actually kill the characters or did they just retire them?

The entire cast has died a few times over in the Halloween specials.

I don't think she's dead. I think they just stopped showing her.

Yeah, Frank Grimes did die. I think they once found Smithers' biological father's bones once too, although he was not really a character with any part in the show.

Well, since the woman playing her died, the character's could be assumed dead, unless she was seen in the background without a speaking part in a later episode. The same would go for Phil Hartman's characters.
However, I wouldn't consider them dead unless their death is mentioned in an episode.

Yes, but he comes back in another episode of "Itchy and Scratchy". Perhaps Poochie (The I&S character Homer voiced) could be classified as dead.

He makes a reappearance in the Halloween special when Bart and Lisa enter the cartoon.
