Apocalypse Now: Redux vs Original
Which version do you prefer?
The End of Suburbia

"The Wire" is the best show in the history of television. Watch it today.

I can't pick. I like how the original ends with "The End" but I think the Redux version works better in it's "Heart of Darkness" aspect because it doesn't end that way.
It could be that I can relate better to Kurtz now than when I saw the original.

Weird, just watched redux tonight.
I thought redux was a better story, but the first was a better movie. Given the choice, I would own both, but watch the original.
If you haven't seen "Hearts of Darkness: the making of Apocolypse Now", I strongly suggest it. THe making of the movie was as insane as the movie itself. Martin Sheen had a nervous breakdown (the hotel scene early on is real, he really was freaking out - he wasn't supposed to actually hit the mirror, that was his real blood), and later had a massive heart attack. Brando's character was supposed to be a lean tough marine but showed up weighing 300 pounds, and Dennis Hopper was the same off screen as he was on. Very interesting stuff.

The Redux was good, but too long, and I generally like very long movies. Still I'd say I perfer it.

It took me a week of on and off viewing to watch the original. Needless to say although i own it on DVD i haven't watched it all. From what i've seen redux is better.

I've only seen the first, but I've heard that Redux was way too long as a film and somewhat cluttered.
Based on my veiwing of the OV, I can't really see what they could add, so I vote for the first version.
Still hate Marlon Brando, though. Arrogant cow...

I always think of Marlon Brando as being insane, living on his own island with every fastfood outlet possible there.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:I've only seen the first, but I've heard that Redux was way too long as a film and somewhat cluttered.
