There are quite a few words with dual meanings. Koi means love or carp, for example.

Soryu, Ayanami, Akagi, Katsuragi, Aoba, Ibuki, and Hyuuga were all names of Japanese ships in WWII. In addition, "Langley" (Asuka's middle name) was an American ship, and "Rokubungi" (Gendo's maiden(?) name) is a sextant or possibly some other sort of navigational device.

There are rumours that they wanted the VA for Hino Rei (of SM) to join up with the NGE cast, but she declined. Incidentially, they VA for Misato is also the one for Usagi Tsukino.

According to the first Evangelion manga, Shinji was so named because it means "mind", Misato was the name of one of Anno's friends, and Ritsuko came from an anime that Anno liked.

I also like Osamu Tezuka's names. Rock, Duke Red, Skunk, Lamp, Mr. Mustachio (Kensuke Ban), Atlas, Rococo.
