Hey, has anyone heard Mettallica's title track to there their new record yet? Personly I think it's badass.
Get your fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid ideas

I like it. It's different for sure but a really good song.Tosho wrote:Hey, has anyone heard Mettallica's title track to there their new record yet? Personly I think it's badass.
Thank you for proving my point.aerius wrote:Heard it on the radio a few days ago and it sucks ass. If it weren't for the radio DJ telling me it was Metallica I would've thought it was some shit ass song by Linkin Park or Godsmack or one of those shitty dime a dozen wannabe nu-metal bands. Hetfield sounds retarded, there's no guitar solos, and the playing is so simplistic that any jackass could've done it. It sounds like a garage band doing a bad cover of a nu-metal band.
The song sucked ass and is completely indistinguishable from all the other nu-metal shit on the radio, what a fucking waste. 5+ years to write a single fuckin' album and this is the shit they come up with?
Different from their other stuff for sure, but it sounds exactly like every other shitty nu-metal band. It has nothing to distinguish it from anything else, you can't hear it and go "yup, that's Metallica", I needed a DJ to tell me it was and even then it was hard to know. Even the stuff on "Load" & The Black Album I can hear 10 seconds of it and instantly know it's Metallica despite the fact that I own neither album and know only a handful of songs on them.Stormbringer wrote:I like it. Probably won't do well, it's going to get killed for being different. Why is it that bands, heavy metal bands especially, get critisized for having differing music?
One of the guys from Metallica said that, so I suppose that's what they were going for.aerius wrote:It sounds like a garage band
First of all, from what I heard on the radio a lot of people hate the song at first but grow to love it. Furthermore, who knows? Mabye the rest of Saint Anger sounds like the "classic" Metalica. The song sucked ass and is completely indistinguishable from all the other nu-metal shit on the radio, what a fucking waste. 5+ years to write a single fuckin' album and this is the shit they come up with?
Personly I'm neutral towards evanescence, truth be told the only thing I truly like about them is that hot vocalist of theirs.Rye wrote:Alright, but not great, better than that evanescence crap anyway.
Your whole objection seems to be that's it's nu-metal rather than any objective critisism. You don't have to like it but you seem to be objecting to it on the style and then deciding the song must suck because of that.aerius wrote:Different from their other stuff for sure, but it sounds exactly like every other shitty nu-metal band. It's one thing to evolve and write different music, any decent artist does that. But when the artist changes styles, they better write good music for whatever style of music they're playing. If Metallica's gonna write nu-metal, they better make good nu-metal as opposed to shit that any nu-metal band can write. The new single is painful to hear, I've heard far better songs from System of a Down and even Linkin Park for crying out loud. If Metallica wants my respect for doing nu-metal songs, they better make nu-metal songs that blow every other nu-metal song out of the water, which they haven't.
I don't like it because the song quality just isn't there, not because it's nu-metal. If they wrote kick-ass nu-metal songs that pushed the limits start to redefine nu-metal, then all the power to them. If they wrote nu-metal songs thaat were good enough that few other nu-metal bands could match them then great, they get my respects. But they haven't. What they've done instead is write a song that any nu-metal band could've written and performed, and as such they'll get as much respect as the nu-metal bands that I bitch about...which is to say none.Stormbringer wrote:Your whole objection seems to be that's it's nu-metal rather than any objective critisism. You seem to just have a problem with nu-metal and decided solely on that. That you've decided all nu-metal sucks and since Saint Anger is nu-metal it must suck. That seems to be all I've heard from you.aerius wrote:I don't like it because the song quality just isn't there, not because it's nu-metal. I should clarify things since my bitchy wording wasn't as clear as it could be. I admit that I'm not the biggest fan of nu-metal, in fact I have a strong dislike for most of it, but there are nu-metal bands that I do like. Bands such as "System of a Down" which is fairly well known and a couple others like "Chevelle" and "Recover" which are practically unknown. They write cool songs and have my respects.Stormbringer wrote:You seem to just have a problem with nu-metal and decided solely on that.
