How many of you play or enjoy watching? I'm not a *huge* fan, but it's a fun game to watch. Of course, varsity lacrosse is a freakin' cult- people carrying lacrosse stick with them -all the time- in -every class- and doing nothing but play lacrosse, all weekend, every weekend.

Played it in PE once, and it was dangerous as hell. 40 kids running after a ball with big poles in their hand gets quite exciting...

My sister plays Lacrosse, and this would not be notable if her team did not have the greatest nickname of all time:

Chicks with Sticks.

Because that's what lacrosse is

I had a couple f frineds who went to a Public School, and my sister and I once had fun running around waving those net things in the air in their garden.
I prefer hockey, personally, if only becaus eit's a mixed sport and you can wallop a bunch of boys in it.

I play lacrosse, and coach it for a rec league in my town. Its incredibly fun. I started it at first because my uncle who also plays told me it was hockey on grass. Since I can't skate, I decided what the hell. Been playing it regularly for six years now. Defense is my specialty because your main job is to hurt the other team's attackers and midfielders. And if you get the ball accidentally, you chuck it downfield. If you're lucky, you'll hit a teammate. If you're REAL lucky, the other team will recover it and you'll get to bash more heads.

There are few things less satisfying than belting some preppy rich kid from Cornell across his back with a ~5 foot piece of titanium :P

Thats Field hockey. Which is mostly played by girls, and guys who can't make the hockey/lacrosse team (honestly. Some guy played on the girls field hockey team in my high school because he couldn't hack the other sports)

In America, 'hockey' generally means 'ice hockey'

Lacrosse isn't my thing in any form, viewing or playing.

It's mostly played by state school girls, you mean. Lacrosse is played by Public School girls, because heavens forbid you touch anyone with your stick.

Am I the only one who read Enid Blyton growing up?

Public schools are State schools in the USA, and probably.

Imagine people running around on a soccer-like field, hurling balls at like 100+ mph at each other. And all you have is this stick with a small net on it.

That's basically lacrosse.

I'm reminded of one of the silent segments from the Red Green show where they were playing a game of lacrosse...

The Iroquois invented it.

But they killed the losers.

I believe it was originally played on a beach, and the field was miles long. You could do anything to get the ball from an opposing player (including excessive force). Games lasted days, first point won. I was told this a few years ago by some guy who looked like Tommy the Green Ranger when I was at Plymouth Plantation with my grandparents, so who knows how true it is :P
