A lot of people can't stand the U.N. However what system would you replace it with if you had the power? Or at least what do you think would be a better working system to replace the U.N.?

There is no need to replace it since it has never really existed on anything but paper. All of the roles it is supposed to filled are preformed by the USA, Britian, Germany, and a few others.

Nonetheless it is still there and supposedly has a lot of importance in todays world. What do you think would be better or a way to improve it?

Sorry for bringing scifi into this but Im personally thinking something along the lines of what the Earth in Babylon 5 did. The "Earth Alliance" in B5 apparently started around 2080 as an economical/political conglomerate between many of the greater developed nations on earth with the goal of colonizing Mars. Over the years it supposedly became the practical replacement for the U.N.

The key word, Icehawk, and you may not know just how right you truly are is "supposedly". In general the UN is the worst case of "Truth by vote" I have ever seen. When countries like Sudan, that practice slaverly of non Muslim blacks, North Korea, the starving dictatorship, China, the forced abortion (resulting in sexualy selective infanticide) populimiter, Syrria, Libya, (ect... you get my drift)on the human rights committee, then look out Superman, you're now on Bizzaro Earth. By the way, have you noticed the singular and extreme importance and threat Isreal poses to Human kind, as more than half of the UN resolutions in the last 10 years are condemning it? Good thing all the important problems have been solved!(Bosnia, Serbia, Sierra Leon, Hutu Burundi genocide SHUT UP ok)

The entire concept of the United Nations Organisation is foolishness; a permanent alliance of the world's states governed by a permanent, dedicated apparatus separate from the constituent states is completely indistinguishable in a practical sense from de facto world government.

Needless to say, the very idea of a single, unified world government formed by subterfuge and deception, neither founded upon any concrete fundamental law nor upon any concept of inherent and inalienable rights, is a singularly repulsive concept.

There is no need for any organisation such as the UNO. Proponents of the UNO might be stunned to discover that international and inter-governmental affairs were carried on long before a globalist forum was created -- John Jay was Secretary of Foreign Affairs before the Constitution for the United States was ratified. There is a reason most governments have ministries of foreign affairs and diplomatic missions -- because governments are quite capable of carrying out their own business, without the interference of outsiders.

The UNO serves no legitimate function, and is wasteful of manpower, time, money, and other resources. For that reason alone, it should be dissolved; no replacement for it is either necessary or desirable.

I wouldn't replace the U.N., i'd just have the US withdraw from it entirely, and all of their policies don't affect the US. We don't need their stinkin' policies!

Replace it?
A Dictatorship Headed by myself because for three simple Reasons

A. If I sat on my arse and did nothing at all I would be doing better than the Currant UN
B. I'm a resonable clear thinking indivual... Unlike the Blithering Morons wh currantly have there
C. I have a fine grasp of what issues acutal matter(Russia-Did somone say missing Nukes? Human rights? We don't need no-stinkin human Rights!-Somolia, AIDS err whats that?~1/8 of the Population of Africa)
D. I have a take no shit attiude and unlike the featherweights we have now, When I took a stand on an issue I would MAKE a stand on an issue, untill proven wrong or it was no longer one. Not because it might piss of 10 people and help 50million

A world Ruled by me, Its a good place, you just have to accept it :D

Acutal no I'm not I'm littlerly SPEWING good ideas left and right WOooh there goes another one

But I'll put it another way

The concept of the UN has always amused me. Hundreds of poor, underdeveloped, under populated nations controlling a dozen powerful ones. There is one nation between France and Germany a few miles across that is no more than a town, yet they have as much power as any other nation there.

Would be simpler if US just took over the world

And the US could do it too. If the industrial capacity of the US was diverted to Military purposes and with our rather large population we could take the world. At least this hemisphere.

Give NATO a few years

If Chechnya ever gets finished, Russia will want in. Probably about the same time China's economy finally hits bottom and they drop the whole socialism dictatorship bit. At that point the UN will start having a major inferiority complex.

I'd take NATO and rename it the DDO. Democratic Defense Organization. Only countries with fair multi-party elections, largely free markets, executives with limited power, legislatures that have the power to check the executive, free media, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, jury trials, appeals, habeas corpus, and perhaps a few other things could be made new members from now on. Third-world nations that join the DDO and need foreign aid for economic development would get priority over nations not part of the DDO, all other things being equal. No special councils of this or that.

It might be desirable to give each nation a number of votes to be determined by some complex forumla based on expenditures in certain areas of foreign aid (i.e. useful aid) and/or expenditures in military operations supported by the DDO or conducted by the DDO in defense of the DDO (Desert Storm comes to mind) in toto and as a percentage of GDP. Then we might all be more generous. Of course, any such proposal would only work if countries started making decisions based on principal tied to practicality and stopped acting like cowards with regard to most issues. Such as dealing with brutal, aggressive dictators head-on through whatever means necessary.

Mmm one government on Earth above all countries is an appealing idea. Terra for terrans! It might not be the best option for mankind, but hey that would be quite interesting nevertheless to see what it would do.
Replacing the UN with the Empire is also an interesting choice.

A chocolate chip cookie. A really big one.

And probably some milk. The U.N.'s worth a cookie and some milk, at least, right?
