I wasn't sure where to put it, so I put it here. If I was wrong and it belonged someplace else, than please move it, Mods. Thanks.
What're your thoughts on it? Both on the people who engage in it and the fact that it's illegal and the amount of effort law enforcement puts in to stop it. Do you think it's "right" that it's illegal? I mean, granted the whole violation of traffic laws thing is there, but aside from that.
Personally, I'm against it and support all efforts to stop it. It's quite dangerous and potentially destructive to lives and personal property. I've heard there are tracks out there for those souped up cars, so keep it there,
not in some business district at night or on the bridges (which, it seems, is a popular place for it in the Tampa Bay Area [Gandy Bridge] according to the local media).

I personally don't like it in populated areas, but if they're going to isolated areas where there's no-one arounds I have no gripes.

It puts people at risk. If you've got the money to rice out your car, you can shell out $20 at the local track and not endanger someone's life.

I've seen people doing it outside my house. It's noisy and annoying. Hey, some of them went by right now. Bleh. Lamers.

Every time I see some asshole driving a souped up car with a lawnmower motor and 19 inch rims, I tell myself that those street "racers" should be infinitely thankful of the fact that it is illegal for private citizens to own fully armed and operational tanks. Because, if I owned a tank with ammunition, believe-you-me, I'd use it on those street-racing punks as often as possible.

I'm not talking about the wannabes (which is what I'm guessing you're referring to), but to those whose cars actually do go fast and such, and actually participate in the races themselves, ala
The Fast and the Furious and so on.

My wrath extends to
any idiot who believes a public roadway is a race strip. There are places for people to race their vehicles. Public streets, outside of official, sanctioned, events, are not such places.

There's a HUGE scandal here in Houston concerning the arrest of 278 people during a raid on street racers who were hanging out in a KMart parking lot.
Alot of the people arrested were not involved in street racing and were simply hanging out with friends.
Anyways, I live (literally) right next door to where all the shit went down....and ever since the bust, there's been a signifigant reduction in street racing in this area. Those fartknockers would congest the intersection, do peelouts, and have their stereos blaring, blah blah blah.

I think it's wrong. However, i will give it a squirt and trash a V8 in a quiet zone, if it is an open area.
It cuts a lot when hoons speed around and give us all a bad name. What they do is just plain dangerous, and i get the stigma that i must be a hoon because i own a car with a bit of guts.
Having a car with a bit of poke can actually help you avoid an accident, which i can testify to on several occasions

you want to street race, go to northern, the great plains, or the southwest. *more* then enough room there.
going 90 in a rresidential zone with interactions is just foolish. I dont want a toyota coming into my room and kiling my cat, ty.
