Ahh world war two, the last good war.

We will keep on fighting it over and over again as long as there are computer sims.

Unless you are a Tanker, or grew up with Tankers, then we will continue to refight the Civil War, then the tactics of Gengis Khan, and then start refighting the North Africa Campaign, and then the East Front actions, and finally the lopsided mongol hoard style slaughter that was US vs. Iraq.

Of couse somewhere in the Tanker bible is the unmitagated love of Crazy Horse. A man who got his name for riding into battle with only belts for his weapons and reloads, and no warpaint, or marks of distinction. (Now Ted Turner show THAT in your movie about him....)

I'm a bit lost. If you're passing form euros to dollars, then £44.99 is about $44.1. And does this mean in europe it costs half the price than in the U.S? IF THAT'S THE CASE, on you

Go get Battlefield 1942. It's by far the best WW2 game out there. Not only are you a soldier, but you can use any of 35 historically accurate WW2 vehicles (I.E. The U.S. Jeeps are 4WD, so you can drive them places the 2WD Axis Jeeps can't go), from Jeeps to tanks to battleships, subs, B-17 bomers, all the stuff.

There's nothing more fun than climbing up a hill in a Jeep with a friend riding shotgun and the the two of you pissing down bazooka fire on the enemy's amor/artillery. Just pray a machine gunner doesn't rip you up before you accomplish your goal.

World War II is absolutely fascinating to most of us, I think, because of its sheer scale and the many moral issues raised (some of which become more complex the more you study them).

Nevertheless, my favourite war movie lately is actually "BlackHawk Down", which takes place much more recently. Maybe it's just WW2 overload, or maybe it's the fact that the Mogadishu raid took place during my lifetime.

Or the fact that the Mogadishu raid was a colossal clusterfuck that was kept from becoming a total disaster through the training, tenacity, and courage of the US soldiers involved.

Not that there aren't a bunch of situations like that in WW2...

Yes, another great movie like that The Zulus, the one with Michael Kaine. The British, holding order, firing in one row, while the other infront reloaded, keeping form tas great.

I am into to WW2, but I'm mainly interested in the Eastern front, where the issue of Europe was actually decided I'm really waiting for a good Ostfront movie to come out of Hollywood. I really am.

My favorite war movie is 'Glory'. 'U-571' kicks ass, too.

Might have too wait awhile And, yes it istrue when Hitler turned towards the Ukraine and not sending his full force too Moscow he did himself in.

I thought the most stirring moment of Blackhawk Down was the scene when the Hummers rolled out for a second time. This time, they had no illusions about a cakewalk; they knew they were hopelessly under-equipped and under-armed and that they would be facing thousands of armed militia, with no timeframe for reinforcements. But of course, they don't hesitate for a second because they've got to go get their guys. I know that's the code, but it's still quite a thing to see it dramatized like that.

"Blackhawk Down" is an excellent modern day war movie, I got the DVD for my B-day here about two weeks ago , and I've watched it at least 6 times. I agree with Darth Wong that the second Hummer rollout was excellent but for me the best scene is when the two Delta Snipers drop in KNOWING that in all likelyhood they will die in order to try and save the wounded chopper pilot. Says a lot for the fighting spirit and tenacity of the American troops that were deployed to Somalia. I also love Tom Sizemore, once again playing the cool as ice badass as the Ranger Lt Col. very similar to Sgt Horvath from SPR.

The movie has a lot of falsehoods like Blackburn the key puncher fighting it out and being blasted by rpgs, when in reality, Blackburn was the guy who fell from the chopper. It didn't convey as much of the harshness that the real situation did, as in reality the Rpg firers actually hid in groups of women and children, using them as body shields. The US troops had an extremely harsh time, and the Movie does examine this and did a good job of portraying it. This movie is actually my favorite just a tad above none other than Saving Private Ryan. I feel for a lot of those guys and would venture to even call them heros for their couragous actions, especially Sizemore's character who locked hands with a soldier who had his legs blown off, it was probably the most impactful scene in any movie I have yet to see, and knowing that it did take place increases that feeling ten fold.

BHD is amazing and will rank as one of the best Modern War movies in history.

The only problem I have with BHD, is that one of my family members lent my DVD to a supposed "Friend" and when it was returned it was scratched to hell, as if someone had taken a brilo pad and started doing a Mr Meogie(sp? Karate Kid) wax on, wax off deal to it. And he only barrowed it for a week. This "friend" nolonger has any meaning to me, and I have disowned them, unless of course they replace it.

I did also have a problem with the DVD, It was practicly devoid of extras, it stated that it had Theatrical trailers, to my horrific findings they were for Scooby Do and other very asinine films of which I wanted to see BHD's trailers as they are amazing also. I think a lot of these companies should relook at the potential of the DVD, and give us all they can, GL appears to want to do this, which is why I can't wait for the original trilogy to come out with all the extras that can be found.

Actually, it was quite accurate (assuming that Bowden's book was accurate). And Blackburn was identified onscreen as the guy who fell from the chopper.

Well, it also had the usual "featurette", but I agree that more would have definitely been nice.

Yeah the same 1 hour long featurette which averagely appeared on E! like a month before the movie came out in the theaters. Only to reappear on an advertised DVD saying "amazing special features."

Blackhawk down was an excellent movie, but it has its problem.

It makes it look like the Somali's could casually knock down Blackhawks with one or two RPG rounds. In reality they fired several hundred to get those few hits, pilots reported seeing dozens at a time rising up into the sky. In addition the helicopters gunned down firing teams by the dozen,

The movie also didn't show the extensive use of human shields by the militia, something that was rather significant.

One of the bigger problems with the movies was General Garrison's comment about requesting armor and AC-130's. In fact he never made that request, it was the commander of the 10th mountain who asked for such.

It also greatly reduces the role of the Little Birds providing fire support. They killed hundred of milita and three of them protected the second crash site for some time on there own.

True, but you're describing errors of omission, and I consider those forgivable (to a certain extent) in a time-limited film (although I agree about the RPG's; they did make it look really easy to down a BH).

That's not exactly very realistic, is it? The best war game I've ever played way Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear....so realistic it almost made me shit in my pants at times, and gave me renewed respect for special forces troops as well...putting a 3 round burst into a terrorist's face at 10 metres from a MP-5 is NOT as easy as it sounds...

Actually Rouge Spear is not very realistic at all. No first person shooter with a reticule is. Its only those which make you actually look down the sights which can begin to claim to be realistic.

Anyway if I was to chose from those with reticule's, Ghost Recon has Rouge Spear beat by a huge margin. Course Red Storm made both.
