I Almost Died

Since Memorial Day, I've had a really bad cough, and it seemed like it was going away until this morning. I woke up unable to breath, and unable to control myself. I just kept gasping for air, coughing, and thrashing around. I rolled all over my room, uncontrollably gasping and coughing. It felt like I was going to cough out my lungs and there was nothing I could do about it.
Finally I was able to stop, but if I breathed in too much, I would start again. My friend ran downstairs and got me a glass of water.

Now I'm in control again, but it pisses me off because I guess I have to go to the doctor. Anyways, just thought I'd let you know that.

I've had that type of coughing attacks before...nasty ugly feeling.

Course one's arrogance towards such things is probably what will kill me in the end.

FYI: Difficulty breathing could be SARS.

I don't think so; I don't have a fever.

Bronchitis maybe? The no fever bit sounds strange.

Asthma?

Sure hope not but better get that checked out.

Yeah, my mom's afraid it's bronchitis. I have a doctor's appointment at 2:30, so I guess I'll find out what it is then, hopefully. They'll probably give me a TB test, which'll suck.

Could be an allergic reaction to something, hard to tell really.

I've had something like that happen to me a couple times. No trouble breathing, though. I had a couple dreams where I'd see a bright light streaking from a tunnel, and/or a flash surrounding my vision. I'd also hear a "crunch" sound, it's like if death was a sound that would be the sound of death.

I'd wake up, and though I could breathe and move my eyes, every other part of my body was paralized. It would take me several minutes to finally break out of it (calm deep breaths usually did the trick.) After the first one, I seriously thought I almost died and somehow cheated death.

Umm, are you on any kind of serious drugs man?

Nope, no major drugs. Weird shit always happens to me every so often, especially in the dream realm. Just that it's exceedingly rare for it to manifest into real life.

Welp, that's freaky. About the only think that compares for me is that once I dreamed an odd dream about losing my voicebox. I woke up, and my voice was gone. It came back, but scared the shit out of me for a little while.

I guess some people just have stuff like that happen more than others. My (Southern Baptist) Grandmother describes it as "demons", and it very well be, but whatever it is, that kinda stuff is really weird. Maybe we will come up with an explanation some day, probably not.

In the mean time, it's good you're still here Robert, and that's good!

In my dream last night (the trippiest I've seen in a while...Very long too) I used a felt pen filled with a special narcotic to get high with. One would do so by rubbing the writing end of the pen on your tongue. This is aside from my other dreams of matress-wagon cops and Waffen SS troops in my neighbor's backyard, mind you.

(im starting to feel like Dr. Phil here, talking about this kinda stuff)
Honestly, I think you need professional help. I mean, WHAT THE HELL? Especially if these dreams are messing with your life when awake, it's something to be checked out. There's a whole field of people devoted to making you pay large amounts of money so they can take their time to figure all this out. Maybe your dreams mean something, I dunno. But, uh, they don't sound like normal dreams to me...

Well, there is a saying that if you die in dreams then you die in real life, but thats just supersticious mumbo jumbo else I'd be long dead (in my dreams I've seen myself die multiple times, the freakiest though is to feel it... I really hate those dreams when you feel things like knive wounds and such... my subconscious really has it out for me...)

As for the coughing thing, it good that you get that checked out. If it impeded your ability to breath (well, in a way other than you couldn't breath between coughs... I really hate that) then its bound to be something that needs more than mere willpower to cure.

I HAVE a counselor...I told him about my dreams and we both had a laugh at them.

I'm one of the few human beings who can engage in lucid dreaming without training. That Waffen SS dream they tried to kill me so I thought up my OWN SS troops to go over and kill them. And there was a big hole in my kitchen wall from a previous dream. If it's a lucid dream, it's actually consistent with past dreams. Hence the hole.

Nevermind the one where I was flung around my room by an evil force while a hidden demon growled at me from outside my window in Latin.

Whoa, that sounds like some nasty shit that happened, and I hope all goes well at the doctors.

Turns out I have bronchitis. I'm on antibiotics now (Keflex, specifically), and should be fine after a few days of treatment. This works out great since I have tomorrow and the next day off of work already.

I hope I never feel like I felt this morning again. It was really scary; I couldn't control my body. My body just started taking huge gasps of air and then coughing uncontrollably, but none of the air from the gasps was getting into my lungs. My throat muscles were spasming like crazy, and in turn, my other muscles started to go haywire. The only comparable feeling I've ever had was once or twice when I almost choked on stuff, but this was way worse.

Glad you're OK. I hope the treatment goes well.
May your recovery be speedy and complete.

I was thinking the same.

I'm sure you will be fine, soon.

PS: While you're at the doc, don't forget to check the nurses!!!
