Okay it’s that time of year again. Scandinavians biggest holyday, Midsummer!

On Friday it’s midsummer night’s eve and on Saturday midsummer :D

Just so you get an idea how big a holyday this is:

They had to move midsummer so now it is always on a Saturday.
Because before when they used the real date it might happen on a Wednesday or whatever with a huge loss of productivity, when 80-90% of the workforce in Sweden called in sick or took a vacation.

The common recipe for a successful party is:

First and foremost: Get out of the town, barge in on some relatives that live in the rural areas close to a lake.

Be happy and bring potatoes, snaps and sill (herring).

Prep the food.

Raise the midsummer pole.

Dance around the midsummer pole.

Play some party games, tug of war, 3leg race, wheelbarrow, whatever.

Bring beer to the cook.

Eat potatoes, Sill and Snaps. Loads of snaps… Don't forget to sing to the snapps (snappsvisa)

A word about sill or herring as you prefer to call it.

I am absolutely sure that nowhere in the world exempt here can you find 40-50 different types of herring with garlic, mustard, dill, French mustard… The list goes on an on.

Also I heard on the radio today that the sale of snaps rises with 450% today in comparison to any other week in the year.

Fix a fire.

Bring out the hot dogs and burn them to a crisp on the fire.

Here the organised activity usually ends but the only people that go to bed before 05.00 am or so is the ones that have found eatchother during the party and wishes to spend some time alone.

Also I did see figures that a disproportional amount of children is born about nine months after midsummer…

Above all be happy and enjoy the only true pagan party there is :D

Edit
Forgot "snapsvisa"... damn to exited :D

It's nice to know that hot dogs being burnt to a crisp over an open fire is an apparently universal thing! :D
