Has Wong ever been defeated?

My question is this: Has our lord ever been defeated? Has he ever, in his entire 30-something existance, suffered a Smackdown? Has anyone, ever, online or off, proven him wrong?

Or he is well and truly infallible?

Well he's smart enough to know when a position is undefendable, so.

I'd imagine he's gotten it from Lady Wong at least once.

It depends on what you mean by "defeated." To my knowledge, he has never been defeated in a full scale debate, partly because he consistently chooses sides that have large advantages, but also because of his excellent debating skills and intelligence. I have seen Mike concede some points, so if that's what you mean by "defeated," then yes, he has been beaten in the past. In that particular thread, IIRC, he got into a debate on B5 and culture, so it really had nothing to do with his strong points of SW, ST, science, and religion. No one is infallible. I am sure that he has been wrong sometimes in RL, too.

No one is infallible. The Dark Lord doesn't know everything.

I've made mistakes before, as everyone has. But in the particular cases of Star Wars' military superiority over Star Trek or the inherent superiority of evolution theory over the idiot religio-masturbatory fantasy that is "creation theory", I have taken a position which is so strong that I would have to be downright incompetent to be forced to concede a point on anything more than insignificant peripheral issues or ambiguities.

PS. Keep in mind, however, that I'm older and wiser than many of my opponents, not to mention better-educated, which gives me several advantages. I was pretty arrogant and ignorant when I was 16 years old too.

PPS. #1 rule to doing well in a debate: choose a good location to set up your defensive perimeter. Make sure you know exactly what your position is, and do not let your opponent draw you out of your strongpoint (some people are very good at trying to draw you off-topic or trick you into defending arguments which are favourable for your "side" but which you never actually made).

Mind you, it's dangerous to question peoples' sense of humour in the bizarre little community of sci-fi debaters. Any time someone gets serious about any debate involving sci-fi universes, I think 90% of the general population will think that he has no sense of humour.

"The latest SD.net bull: Wong is infallible"

"Of course, you notice that every arguement he gets in no matter how it goes they declare victory for him.... even when it turns into him flaming the other person until they leave.

And there is that time I e-mailed him to begin something and he did the childish little "I declare victory before it's even started" bit and refused to respond to me further."

"And people call OUR boards a cesspool. SD.net is a warsie circle-jerk,"

Who else could come up with a design for an utterly undestroyable ship that would get smashed to pieces by wave action the moment it hit the water.

Manji's a dork.

Yes, I realize the irony of my saying that.
