*yawn* Saw it.

Someone needs to run out there dressed as a Black Mage and yell "Arutema!", then run off laughing.

I wonder if that mage actaully had enough spell slots for all those lighning bolts. If he does why not use meteor swarm instead.

8 lighning bolts. I wonder if he is a sorcerer or wizard, because to have at least 8 third level spells per day he would need to be 20th ;vel and have a an intellegence score in the high 20's-low 30's :D

Looks to me like they are playing D&D in live action(I have considered doing this on several occasions)

Reenactments of medieval tournements, warfare, and dueling are cool. I saw some when I was in England; at Lincoln Castle, Warwick Castle, and the Tower of London respectively. They were interesting and fun to watch.

Now to properly cast lightning bolt he should say

Ast kiranann kair Gardurm Soth-arn Suh kali Jalaran

And raise his hand in front of him and put his fingers into the symbol for 25 in sign language.

Netherese is so much easier.

Yell Volhm while slapping your hands together over your head. Instant lightning.

Wow, it really is a small world after all... I know those people, and it's not D&D, although it is a fantasy-based live action system. The spell could be "chain lightning" or some such that allows you to cast multiple "lightning bolts." It's been a while since I played, so I don't remember precisely.

Now the more important question: do I email this thread to them so they know they had their 5 seconds of fame?

It's a lot of fun... go out in the woods and beat the hell out of each other with foam swords. Check around your area, there might be some sort of live-action gaming there. If you don't mind bruises, the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) is another good bet. I learned two things from it: number one, getting hit hurts, and number two, chain mail chafes when you wear it for long periods of time. I've got a whole new respect for medieval soldiers, that stuff is *heavy*.

Occasional swordfights with foam weapons is fine.

I find spending days LARPing is a bit over the top.

Yeah, plus, I was of the opinion that lightning bolts were supposed to look like firey, sizzling, crackling blasts of nature's incandescent fury, not ping-pong balls.

I'm with Spongy. If I was the big guy with the club I would have smacked the "lightening bolt" fellow just because he was so annoying.

Actually, this thing resembles a game I used to play with my friends in university.

About sixty of us had organized live wargames. We had those old Nerf-style practice swords (plastic or wooden rods with a foam-like cover).

We'd coat the blades with body paint - green for one team and red for the other, put on old tee-shirts and jogging pants - and for the safety conscious, roller-blade or bike protective gear, assemble in a park, and whap the shit out of each other. If you took a paint swath you were dead and had to lie down and pray you didn't get trampled. Victory to the standing team.

Mock sword fighting is fun, if you ignore getting a mighty clobber upside the head every so often. It was really energetic and exhilerating, as long as battle didn't go on too long so as the paint would dry on your blade!
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.
