[quote="weemadando"]Taking nominations for the following categories (each category will have 6 finalists):
Best Car Chase - Tomorrow Never Dies, Bond with the BMW in the parking ramp
Best Other Vehicular Chase - Goldeneye, Pierce Brosnan driving the tank through downtown St. Petersburg
Best Surface Battle (ground or naval) - Gettysburg, Little Round Top sequence
Best Air or Space Battle - Return of the Jedi.
Best Hand to Hand Combat/Fisticuffs - Darth Maul vs. Qui Gonn and Obi Wann
Most Ridiculously Overblown Gunfight - Chuck Norris. In anything
Best Gib or Gratuitous Dismemberment - Emrey from Stephen King's Rose Red. He gets his fingers chopped off by a slamming door.
Cheesiest Acting (aka the Ben Affleck Memorial Award) - Ben Affleck OWNS this motherfucker.
Cheesiest Script - The Replacements, starring Keanu Reeves. The script managed to hit every sports cliche known to man. Most cheesy sports flicks only hit one or two.
Cheesiest FX -
Cheesiest Direction - George Lucas. The Man Who Gave Us Jar Jar HAS to suffer for it. Therefore, I put him here.
Worst Acting (aka The Keanu Reeves Memorial Award) - Liam Niesen as Qui Gon Ginn. Half the time he's on screen, he has this look on his face like he does'nt know where he is. Granted, the script is of the typical George Lucas cheesiness variety, but Niesen seemed to just mail his performance in. Frankly, I can't blame him. An actor of his quality deserves better....
Worst Script - Pearl Harbor...good GOD was this movie awful. Randall Wallace went out of his way to show the world that his Braveheart script was a fluke
Worst FX - Enterprise. Just utterly unwatchable.
Worst Direction (aka The Jan De Bont Memorial Award) - George Lucas, for Episode 1:The Phantom Menace. This movie had incredible potential to be really good, but casting Jake Lloyd and Jar Jar Binks as leads completely undermines this film. I would have much preferred to see the series start with Anakin as a 15 year old just discovering his abilities as opposed to the altruistic eight year old. I don't think I have to describe to anybody the extent of utter catastrophe that is Jar Jar Binks.
Best Acting - Russel Crowe for Gladiator. It's just hard to imagine anyone else being able to pull off Maximus like he did. Amazing performance
Best Script - Original Script? The Godfather part II. How can you follow up a dynamite first effort any better?
Best FX - The Matrix. I am really curious to see how the next two movies play out....
Best Direction - I just saw Vanilla Sky. Brilliantly concieved and executed. Well casted, well acted, every scene and every angle seemed to work really well. The director even wrote the friggin' script. Unbelievable...Cameron Crowe now gets the Best Direction award over Peter Jackson.
Best Movie - The Matrix. Just the amount of creative effort that went into making this movie blows me away. It's the most inventive movie to come along in quite some thime.
