Holy fucking son of a...a...something. It's so hot I can't think. It's as hot as..as...something really hot.
You don't think the astronomical community would miss it if New York State suddenly appeared in the core of the sun, do you?

Our air conditioner committed suicide yesterday.Colonel Olrik wrote:That's what air conditioning is for, so that you don't spam the forum with your heat problems.
What's the formula for converting Celsius into Fahrenheit? Something plus something times x minus 32? Anyway you live in Portugal, you're used to hot weather. Do you know how rare 90 degree weather is in NY at all, much less in June? WE'll probably all be dead by mid-July...Last Thursday, Lisbon reached 41ºC, and you didn't hear me complain, no siree. I was locked in my room wasting energy.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Actually that's what basements are for. It's been 30-35ºC all week over here and my basement is still at a cool 20ºC. We just set our house ventilation system to circulate all the cool air from our basement to the rest of the house so we've barely had to use the air conditioning. Oh, and we have a nice central air conditioning system that uses pre-ban ozone killing CFC's for maximum cooling when needed. 15 years old and works like new, and it's so cold that you can see your breath in the air coming from the vents.Colonel Olrik wrote:That's what air conditioning is for, so that you don't spam the forum with your heat problems.

Philadelphia has been fairly hot the last couple days, but I was getting sick of having rain 5-6 days out of 7 for weeks. I can finally go the pool among other things.

I agree with Skimmer. Playing rugby for 2 straight hours in 90 degree weather with heavy, long-sleeve rugby shirts on is an excerise in endurance, but at least it's not raining all the damn time anymore.

Mine used to do that. It was happening because the conditioner wasn't sloped properly and the condensed water wasn't draining out. Wedging something an inch or so thick under the inside part should solve the problem.XaLEv wrote:Sometimes air conditioners get all iced over and stop working.Colonel Olrik wrote:That's what air conditioning is for, so that you don't spam the forum with your heat problems.

Yep, I live in Virginia and don't feel anything, mostly because I spend most of the time in the basement where my room is. Actually it's too cold, since the AC is on.jmac wrote:Actually that's what basements are for. It's been 30-35-oC all week over here and my basement is still at a cool 20-oC. Though Toronto is in Canada, it's not an arctic wasteland which seems to be the stereotypical image of Canada. We actually have summers here, and it often gets above 30°C where I live, with hot spells of 35-40°C during July & August. In an urban area with the sun baking the asphalt, the heat radiates off the ground and literally bakes you to a crisp.Pu-239 wrote:You use AC in Toronto?

Today it got to 98F, which is pretty bad, but nothing too extreme. What made it horrible is that I was at work, indoors, with a broken AC, long sleeves, and black slacks. It sucked ass.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'
