Dandruff: Please help me

Post by StarshipTitanic »

I have a nasty dandruff problem. Every day I awake to find crusty bumps of it on my scalp and flakes throughout my hair. No matter how much brushing I do there always seems to be a ton of it. I've tried T-Gel, scalp brushes, and some prescription shampoos but nothing seems to work. Once I tried one week of washing my hair every day (I typically alternate as it's not very oily) with both shampoos yet each day when I'd wake up it was all there. I have very thick hair and I ignore it for long periods of time (typically two months between haircuts) because I'm lazy and it doesn't really bother me. Could that be the problem? Help me, waa!

I am. Any spooky home remedies from the witch doctor in the family, though?

Eh, I am sickened.

Just kidding. I work in a funeral home; it takes more than dandruff to gross me out. Yeah, see a physician.

Maybe over-washing your hair has something to do with it?

I don't know. Get to a doctor with the quickness. :?

Soaps and shampoos have a drying effect, and unless you're sweating like a pig, it's not really necessary to use detergents on your scalp every single day. Maybe you should try washing your hair with water (no soap or shampoo) half the time, and see if that makes it better or worse.

Dandruff is a fungal problem. It certainly doesn't mean you have poor hygein practices though, since people who wash their hair everyday still get it.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I've found that certain shampoos, specifically "Head & Shoulders" help reduce my dandruff, although yours does sound a bit more excessive than mine.

I used to have dandruff. Make sure you have lots of vegetables with Vitamin A in them, and I found washing my hair everyday helps.

Washing your hair everyday? I only do it every second day. Unless you're steeped in cow dung head to toe every day of the week there's absolutely no need to wash your hair everyday. You'll just fuck it up.

Shave your head.

Just kidding. How long is your hair?
I dunno...2 inches? It puffs out like an overgrown mushroom cut when I don't comb it (Not that I can really reposition it).

That makes sense. Now that I think about it, my hair used to be oily until I started using T-Gel and other heavy shampoos nonstop. D'oh!

(Then again, I am 15)
I've found that certain shampoos, specifically "Head & Shoulders" help reduce my dandruff, although yours does sound a bit more excessive than mine.
I've found that to be trash, myself. Never worked at all.
If you want a product tha works w/o the prescription from a doctor go to:
Hmm, I bookmarked the site and will try it if simple rinsing doesn't work.
Wear white t-shirts and jumpers. No-one will notice then.
My hair is dark brown.
Shorter hair helps, but it will pass.
I've had it for nearly a year.

With your age in mind I'd say its just puberty showing off. Don't worry it'll probably die down in a year or two. If not, move to alaska, and tell people you have no body heat.

There are specific shampoos designed to beat dandruff, too. Like Head and Shoulders.

Although the general consensus is, as always, right. Don't wash too much or too little. And shave your head. it's blindingly comfortable and nice to not have to care about hair.

I don't think I'd really mind shaving my head at this point (And summer would be the perfect time to try it so I don't get all panicky about school ) but dad said no because "he said so." :roll:x2
