That's how much I spent on the Criterion Collection DVD of John Woo's The Killer. I still can't believe I did it, but damn, it feels pretty good.
With only 15 minutes left in the eBay auction, I was leading at $83. Then some guy started testing me, and he surpassed my $200 max bid. So I upped it to $250. He started testing again, eventually pushing past $250. I resolved to stop and let him have it at $300, but he gave up first.
So, I now have 3 of 14 out of print Criterion Collection DVDs, including The Killer, the most expensive of the bunch. Next I get Hard Boiled.

Why?
Is the Criterion edition that much better than the other 3 or so that are out?

I wouldn't spend $255 on a DVD if it came with a free blowjob.

It's a FUCKING DVD and considering the shitty things these distributors do like issuing a reprint THAT would suck much ass. Wait, these fuckers ALWAYS issue reprints.

well if you are spending $255 on a DVD and it came with a blow job it wouldn't exactly be free

Actually, it's Criterion. They don't have the rights forever. And it can go to someone else that makes a subpar edition.

Sounds like a Porno DVD.

And you passed up bidding on my
unopened Star Wars Trilogy: The Definitive Collection, even after I lowered the opening bid to $150.00?
I am hurt Mr. Treder, you have wounded me to the soul.
Just kidding. What makes this DVD so valuable?

That was a waste of a lot of money, you could have gotten 10-12 brand new DVD's for that.

$255 is too much on the whoring market for a BJ, anyway.
Also, this sort of thing is why I don't go on Ebay. I've got a lot more money than most people my age, but I don't want to blow it all.

Gaaah, I would not have paid $255.88 for a DVD if it came with a clean prostitute and a wild night of anal sex? Seriously, what the hell is so valuable about this DVD? Did it come in a box plated with 24k gold?

Well, I'll congradulate you since no one else is. While I wouldn't spend that much personally on a DVD, if DVDs are your thing then: cool! I need only glance at my comic book collection to see a rather large investment in pieces of paper that originally sold for 12 cents..... I wouldn't mind getting the out-of-print "Seven Samurai" myself, but I'll stick with the regular Criterion version.
The thing about things like this which most people don't realise: you didn't really blow $250. If the bidding of ebay is any indicator, you can resell the thing later for a similar or higher amount. It used to be hard finding a buyer for these types of things, but the internet and ebay has made it much easier.

Reminds me of the Times I went looking for Cowboy Bebop: Perfect Collection or the Criterion Collection version of Salo.
Needless to say spending $100+ (or in their case, $300 and $400 respectively) on a single disc (or even $300 for a small set of discs) seems like an awful waste of money. But hey, everyone has their hobbies so who am I to bitch.
