Writing off nations...

In some recent conversations with friends I've noticed that its quite common to write off entire nations with a simple comment.

One such event:

Discussing how according to some news reports after 2Fast2Furious, the amount of car accidents on the journey back from the cinema were exponentially higher than usual. The collective response: "Yeah, but that's America..."

Same thing when discussing religion in schools.

Same thing in a tutorial at university discussing legislative process.

Why is it so easy to dismiss an entire nation this way without even really thinking about it? And why is it happening more and more?

Personally I blame Freedom Fries.

It's nothing new. People love to categorise things that way.
But it never hurts to blame Freedom Fries, never.

Because it's easier to categorize and label a group rather than try to understand each individual so the individual becomes synonymous with the group. Stereotyping.

Because, as a whole, people in the US are pretty dumb.

Huh? Whiny PC crap from me? Jesus, when did this start?

It reminds me of a friend of mine who always bitches about Political Correctness and how its just a form of censorship and how censorship is bad - but then goes to the academic board of the university and other groups when all of a sudden a comment which could be interpreted by the ACLU (and thats probably about it) as racist is made in a tutorial.

Hmmmm.... And I thought that he didn't like Political Correctness, must only be when it doesn't offend him.

Actually for such and outspoken anti-american poster Ando is actually trying to muttle the bullshit that people spew. Really Ando, don't even bother yourself with it.

Wasn't that from World War I? We didn't have much of a problem with the Germans, even if they did oppose the war. We picked on the French instead.

As for stereotyping, it's easier to do.

Well, that's what Political Correctness is all about. PC is an idea that has no real supporters anywhere in America and is almost universally disliked. It is an amalgam of everyone's desire to not be offended.
